The good news is you don't have to buy it to try it. The beta is open to the public (first time we've ever done that) to test it out and see how it works on their system. Of course we'd love for you to buy it but even if you don't then as a home user you're more than welcome to use the software for free minus the paid features which really are a main factor in why one should pay for it. Protecting the box from getting infected in the first place is so much easier than trying to find and remove infections after the fact. It also comes with a lifetime update policy (for home consumers only) so that if you did purchase it now you'd never have to purchase it again.

Will we be alerted/prompted that the new version is available for download/install, so that we can control it, akin to Windows updates ("notify me, but don't d/l or install"), and temporarily pause our real-time FW/AV protection?

(I have MBAM updates scheduled for hourly checks, so they sometimes happen when I am using other programs, doing other tasks on the computer. It would be inconvenient at best to have to reboot in the middle of something.)

And can we expect a smooth upgrade on-top of our existing 1.46 installation on Win7?

As I recall, with the last version update (1.45 -> 1.46), many of us didn't know it was coming, and it prompted for reboot and it didn't "take" properly on either of my systems.

I think I had to unintall/clean/reinstall on one or both of my system.

So, it would be nice to be notified that it is coming...

And it would be swell if it installs a bit more smoothly than the last version....

THANKS for great software and support!

Indeed! -_-

I had forgotten about the option to install program updates silently (or not).

It is "un-ticked" on both my systems (I had forgotten that I had configured it that way).

KL is due to re-release a new build for KIS2011 soon (it was initially published in October, then pulled b/c of functionality issues).

It will require its own clean install (and therefore a temporary uninstall of MBAM), so I may wait to take care of both tasks in a coordinated fashion (uninstall/clean of MBAM 1.46 -> clean install of new KIS -> clean install of MBAM 1.50).

On my laptop running WISE, I may or may not be able to update MBAM on top of the existing build. Webroot software has gotten a bit better of late in terms of playing well with standalone security apps, such as MBAM. We shall see...

Thanks for the helpful reminder and advice -- looking forward to the new build!

What I'd recommend, if you're awaiting the new KAV/KIS build, would be to uncheck the Download and install program update if available. option under the Update Settings tab under Settings in MBAM until you're ready to upgrade your KIS, then just do the fresh install of MBAM 1.50 since you're planning on installing it after the new build of KIS.

Yes, sorry, I guess I was garbled about it in my last post: I already have the option to install MBAM program updates silently disabled on both my systems (I had forgotten that this configuration exists!).

OTOH, this KIS re-release has been taking FOREVER. Who knows when it will be available....

So, I may just go ahead and update MBAM on both platforms anyway.

I can always uninstall/clean/reinstall MBAM 1.50 if/when I need to (I keep my license/key information on file).

I was just trying to save a little work by "consolidating".

Thanks for the tips!
