I recently quarantined a piece of malware named ADWARE/adware.gen after doing a virus scan with my free version of avira antivirus.
I had realised that my brand new computer had been slowing down signifigantly prior to me finding this malware or adware or whatever it is.
And it turned out i'd left it about a month before actually quarantining it, which was probably a mistake.
My computer didn't really speed up afterwards, (infact it has now had a couple of bluescreens and programs regularly crashing), so a friend reccomended malware bytes to make sure my computer was clean.
I got it and left it doing a full scan then when i came back i was shocked to see the bright red detections climbing up to a ridicolous number of around 100,000.
Then having completed the scan it told me malware bytes showed me that i had around 1000 trojan agents in a wide range of files and folders, even sound files.
I'm pretty careful with my internet browsing so i can't see how i could of amassed this hefty collection of viruses, so i'm thinking they are mostly false positives but i'd like to know why so many?
And if there is a way of stopping them.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
