@aleph87
1) Which updater are you referring to?

2) Download Security Check by screen317 and save it to your Desktop: here or here
  • Run Security Check
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the command window.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; close Notepad. We will need this log, too, so remember where you've saved it!
Reply with a copy of contents of Checkup.txt

Actually, that's not true. mbamswissarmy.sys does still exist, but it is only created while running a scan, and then removed when the scan is complete.

RE: This Issue

The incorrect system information in the scan logs was caused because MBAM was running in compatibillity mode.

Download and save the zip file to your system. Extract the contents to your Desktop. Then run the exe.
If yours is Windows 7 or Vista, do a Right-Click on it and select Run As Administrator. If prompted by UAC, Allow it to run.
Depending upon your antivirus app, it's probably a good idea to temporarily disable it beforehand, then re-enable your a-v when MBAM setup is finished.

the beta seems to resolve the issue with Zone Alarm Firewall

for this test I ran MBAM in trial mode and on a VM
  • Installed MBAM beta on fresh install of Windows XP no problems
  • enabled the trial, then installed Zone Alarm Firewall no problems ( a little laggy I only have 1g of ram alocated to the VM)
  • uninstalled MBAM with mbam clean
  • reinstalled MBAM on machine that had Zone Alarm installed on it. MBAM installed, no problem
  • reactivated the trial no problem
  • installed Avast Free rebooted machine rescanned with mbam no problem
as a comparison
on the machine with Zone Alarm
  • I uninstalled the beta & "clean" reinstalled 1.60
  • flash scan froze at 3 seconds in & the system locked up almost imeaditly
  • rebooted system froze up imeaditly
  • booted test machine into safe mode
  • disabled mbamgui.exe & mbamservice.exe rebooted machine loaded desktop just fine
  • let machine run a while it didn't freeze
  • ran a on demand scan machine didn't freeze when realtime protection was disabled, it was a bit laggy though
  • reactivated realtime protection machine froze instanly

Hi,

Without clean-up of my old MBAM v1.60.0.1800 + mbamservice fix, new MBAM v1.60.1.1000 works fine on my XP-32 Pro SP2 + ZA Pro v9.3.037

Kudos HiSpeed.

XP-SP2 has been out of support at MS for quite a good while now. I'd urge you to make it a top priority to get SP3 by visiting Windows Update.
Otherwise, you are not getting Important fixes/ security updates.

Re: Message 87

When I check to update my definitions the updating screen shows but nothing happens. I have to end the screen with the task manager.

Here is the info you requested. (Note - I do manual updates of my AV program definitions. I have the auto update turned off.)

Results of screen317's Security Check version 0.99.30
Windows XP Service Pack 3 x86
Internet Explorer 7 Out of date!
``````````````````````````````
Antivirus/Firewall Check:
Windows Firewall Disabled!
Sygate Personal Firewall
WMI entry may not exist for antivirus; attempting automatic update.
```````````````````````````````
Anti-malware/Other Utilities Check:

MVPS Hosts File
SpywareBlaster 4.5
Spybot - Search & Destroy
CCleaner
Mozilla Firefox 8.0. Firefox out of Date!
Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0 Thunderbird out of Date!
````````````````````````````````
Process Check:
objlist.exe by Laurent
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware mbamservice.exe
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware mbamgui.exe
``````````End of Log````````````

The program scans and also protects my computer in the active mode. My only problem is getting the
current definitions.

Thanks

You're probably right Maurice, but I installed SP3 in the past, and I saw only inconvenients.
I also tested all the Seven versions and I prefer SP2...

Ran on XP Pro SP3 Machine today. Cleaned up a lot of infections.
Only thing with this tho... Why can't the program clean each profile on the machine?

I had left over registery parts from mywebsearch in every user profile after one user installed it.
I had to sign into each profile, scan entire computer, then clean what was found.
Takes a Lot of time to do this. I thought the scan entire computer cleaned every profile as well?
Its not right now. Would be great if it did.

Beta is running well. No issues with crashing.

Keep up the great work!!!!

you should read THIS

your XP system is not secure if your only running Service Pack2, its only a matter of time before you get hacked or infected

Are you telling that MBAM is not capable to protect my system with all the SP2 security fixes? :blink:

No software can guarantee that. Without patching your system, you're leaving open many easily exploitable holes in your operating system that can easily be used by infections or malicious hackers to get in. It's the same reason that browser plugins like Adobe Flash, Reader and Java should always be kept up to date.

That's the theory but on the field, with my router firewall, my software firewall, my anti-virus, my anti-malware, my browser plugin WOT, etc., what is the probability to get infected?
Less than an hard disk crash?

A lot higher then if you had the service pack installed and a fully updated Operating system. Security is a layered approach and right now you have a big hole in your layers. All it takes is one zero day new domain that uses an exploit kit and you will get infected.

No, only one hole in one layer is not sufficient because the others layers are shields...
