Eset smart security abd MBAM

Recommended Posts

Hi, nospam29: :)

Sorry you are experiencing issues.

It would greatly assist the MBAM staff if you could provide a bit more detail about the version of the 2 programs you are running (ESET and MBAM), as well as the specific problems you are having - freezes? slow-downs? program crashes? error messages?

Also, do you have a USB external Hard Disk Drive mounted to your computer? (http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=111150&view=findpost&p=560797)

I am not personally familiar with ESET, but MBAM is designed and tested to run alongside all of the major AVs.

Occasionally, though, a user may experience problems that often relate to that user's specific computer (hardware, other software, infection, etc).

If you have not already done so, please try a clean reinstall of MBAM, including the steps to set up the mutual exclusions between MBAM and ESET. The instructions are listed below.

Let us know if that resolves your issue. If it doesn't, please provide some additional details about your system specs and the problem.

Thanks,

daledoc1

MBAM Clean Install INSTRUCTIONS

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).

You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.

Location for Windows x86

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Location for Windows x64

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, download the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE, then temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and run the installer. (Ignore all 'Recommended' or 'Sponsored' software which are prominently displayed on the mirror sites -- they are ads and MBAM does not have any association with them.)
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the system tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or the steps described below, or please ask and we'll explain how to do it.

---------------------------------------

EXCLUSION INSTRUCTIONS

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software (not sure what version of you are using):

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ mbamscheduler.exe

For Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware \ mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products

Hello:

Thanks for the info.

Did you try the steps suggested in my earlier reply?

And do you have a USB external hard drive hooked up to the computer?

And what version of ESET and what version of MBAM are you running?

Please start with my suggestions in the earlier reply and then post back. :)

Thanks,

daledoc1

Hello,

I can't try the steps, because, presently, i'hve desinstall Eset, provisionally, to avoid others crashes. I'll lreinstall later and apply your methode. My version of Eset is 5.2.9.

And when I connect up my external disc, it is not any more acknowledged.

I shall hold you informed when i reinstall.

your method seems practically identical in the link which I sent, no?

Hi, nospam29:

This is getting a bit complicated.

It's not a good idea at all to be running your computer without an active, real-time anti-virus (AV) - it's not safe.

I would strongly suggest that you reinstall ESET or another good AV (either free or paid) right away.

With all the crashes you describe, it sounds as if there is something more serious happening with your system than just a possible minor clash between MBAM and ESET.

It might be best to report back directly with some scan logs to provide the experts with detailed information about your system.

-->> Please follow the steps described below to run the DDS scanner tool, and then reply back here with BOTH of the logs attached to your next reply.

The experts will review the logs, determine what the problems might be, and guide you to a solution.

Alternatively, if you are a licensed user of the paid, PRO version of MBAM, you can open a support ticket with the helpdesk directly >>HERE<<.

If you choose this option, please copy/paste the contents of this code box into your support request:

DDS Instructions

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once it is downloaded, you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please attach both of the following logs to your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

Hi,

I attracted, again to make live together two softs. My system crashed and I must have re-installed everything, the repairing having given nothing.

I think that it involves a problem of windows probably rather.

Currently, I think that my OS is healthy, but I abandon. If this renewed itself, I do not want to have to, again, re-install all my programs.

I keep MBAM and Avira, my version of Eset being a trail version.

Thank you for your help.
