I went to run a Malwarebytes scan 2 days ago, but received an MS pop-up that an unexpected problem had occurred and Malwarebytes needed to shut down. I had never encountered this before, and tried several more times to do a scan, but got the same MS pop-up each time.

I figured that perhaps I needed to reinstall Malwarebytes, so using the "add/delete" I deleted Malwarebytes, then downloaded it again. It got as far as the updating (which it did) but then I got the same MS pop-up and am still unable to use what I consider to be a most important program.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello jimmie123: :welcome:

Please do a MBAM clean re-install by doing the following:

  • Download and run the latest mbam-clean.exe.

  • Restart your computer, please allow it to do so - VERY IMPORTANT!

  • Disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here.

  • Reactivate the PRO version of the program using the license within the boxed version or was sent via email.

  • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the PRO version.

  • Setup any process/folder/file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
Please let us know how it goes. :)

Thanks much, did as you directed and Malwarebytes is working. Now if I could only figure where this "Broken.Open" malware comes from, and what it actually is. That's for another day though. Thanks again.

Are you by any chance running IOLO software (e.g. System Mechanic) on your computer?

If so, please have a look at the FAQ - Section A - Item #18 for information about these detections.
