When I start MWB I look in the options and see that protection mode is disabled. When I try to enable it, I get the following error message:
[Create Service] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code: 1073
MWB finally started updating correctly, and now this. What do I need to do to get MWB to start every time Windows starts?

Also, there is no mbam entry in the Task manager (XP, SP3).

I just did what was suggested in this thread. Hopefully things will not keep goofing up like this.

Looks like you already found the article I would have linked you to. Let me know if it doesn't help.

Well same thing has happened. I hadn't seen the icon in the system tray for a while, so I checked Task Manager and sure enough no entries for MWB. I started up the program and then found that the protection mode was disabled again.
I did the solution in that other thread again, but this is really getting old, especially for pro software.
What can I do next time?

Something is jacking up the service for the protection module.
What other security software do you have installed?

OK, run another HijackThis scan, put a checkmark in the box to the left of each line I list in bold below, and the click 'Fix' down below:

OK did that, then rebooted (twice). So far, MWB is behaving itself.
Thanks for your help. Hopefully that was it.
I'll do a scan just to be sure that there isn't anything else that needs fixed.

Nothing found.
The word "worm" in that HJT entry is disturbing. Any thoughts on what it might be?

Looks harmless enough. They have a notice on tehir site about being acquired by AVG--my former antivirus-- in Dec. 2007. Perhaps some of their code was in AVG 8?
Actually, it looks like the company that purchased WormRadar was purchased by AVG. Not sure though, as the information I'm seeing about what WormRadar is is about 3 years old. Looks like it was a toolbar for security experts to see the latest worm infection reports. Only reason I selected it for removal on your computer was that the file was missing.
