Do you have another browser you can use?
Also, see if it helps if you disable your anti-virus (for the time being)

The link works fine, I've used it 3 times today.

Also, see my previous reply (just now ahead of your last one).

I think I'll just try and download it to another machine and copy it to a flash drive for my computer. I think that would be easiest route.

Thanks.

XP SP3 with Zone Alarm 2012 (trial) with anti-virus vers 10.1.079.000
Clean install MBAM 1.60.1
Setup and update all good. Quick scan finished OK. (run in Trial mode)

Have to use ZA Game mode otherwise ZA makes things very sluggish.

Windows XP SP 3 - Sygate Personal Firewall . Trend Micro AV

Ran malwarebytes clean, installed the new beta, registered the program to pro ... works fine ........BUT I am unable to contact the update server. Contacting the update sever appears but nothing happens.

malwarebytes is fully authorized to connect to the internet in the sygate fire wall. Windows firewall is turned off.

Is your update sever down ?

Thanks

Trend Micro AV

Trend Micro AV can be difficult to setup exclusions for. Please try the following.

Set Exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Trend Micro Titanium Max 3.1.1109:

  • Open Trend Micro and click on the Settings button at the bottom of the main menu (looks like a small cog/wheel).
  • Click on Exception List from the list on the side panel, and then select Programs/Folders.
  • Add the following items.

    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Note: On 64 bit Windows versions this will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers\mbam.sys
    • C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys Note: On 64 bit Windows versions this will be C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys
  • Once that is complete, click the apply button.
  • Now click on websites and click the add button and then add the Malwarebytes update domain.

    • data-cdn.mbamupdates.org
  • Click the Apply button and then Restart the computer.

Set Exclusions for Trend Micro Titanium Max 3.1.1109 in Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Ignore List tab
  • Click the Add button on the lower left
  • In the small browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files and click once on Trend Micro and click OK.
Note: For 64 bit Windows versions this will be C:\Program Files (x86)
  • Close Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Installed this along with AVG Internet Security 2012 v. 2012.0.1901. Gonna see if both of them will get along with each other. Added them to their respective exclusion list.

I am unable to run the released 1.60 version on one of my XP, Service Pack 3 Desktop Systems (I have 2 Desktops and 1 Laptop running XP SP3). It seemed like I had a similar problem (if I remember correctly) when 1.5 came out, which the next version corrected. This XP system is the only one that was upgraded from Win98SE. Other than that, the systems run similar utilities and the same anti-malware resident software. One of the differences of the subject system is that the Windows Installation is in the Windows1 folder rather than Windows, if that's any reason.

The good news is that the Beta runs fine !! Why the released 1.60 doesn't run is still a mystery to me, but more than likely the developers will know.

Thanks Malwarebytes team for resolving the problem with this beta (whatever it was), which hopefully will be released soon .

Unfortuneatly back again.

From nowhere after 36 hours, got a malware executables error and security essentials closed down and got computer at risk.

Updated MBAM ok

Stays computer at risk.

MSE was shut off and updates needed. Ran update and got virus softwate updates failed.

Right back to square one. I can manually add/remove then regedit MBAM since the uninstall tool won't seem to work and do MSE uninstall and then see if a reload and reboot. restores but hate to do this every 36 hours or so. MBAM seems to trigger the situation

rebooting and if get back up will come back. Have this same setup on 2 other XP and two W7 boxes and have bought a new W7 box to take the place oof this but hate to have this happen on any of them or the new box so really want to find the cause.

TIA

Maurice Naggar:

I tired to download the clean utility on another computer yesterday but got the same IE error message. Then I borrowed my neighbor's laptop and got the same IE error message. I tried mine again disabling my AV but got the same IE error message. I just called someone and asked them to try and they also got the same IE error message on their computer. That makes four computers I've tried, all with different security setups, and I have seen at least two other people on here with the same problem. The only common link I see is that they are all XP machines with IE8. I know the link works for some people because they are using it and you've tested it, but that makes four computers for me plus the other two individuals on here for a total of at least six that are having the same IE error messages through IE 8. That's telling me that there is some sort of problem with IE8 users accessing the download.

Can I PM you my email address so that you can just send me a copy of the clean utility? I can't keep running around trying to find somebody that is using a non IE8 browser.

Thanks.

Re: Post #68. Sorry I gave you incomplete info regarding the AV program. I am using an old version of PC-cillian that came with the Vcomm system suite program. It uses Trend Micro virus data files ( lpt ). Still unable to contact the update server.
I wonder if the uninstall of ZA might have created this problem. I noted that after the uninstall of ZA 7 several exe files had been blocked. I had to unblock them to install Sygate and run the Malwarebytes installers. Might something be blocking the
updater ? The Beta is working fine and the pro is blocking suspected sites. Only the updater fails to connect to the server.

thanks

Installed beta over previous version. No problems but need to test some samples and settings.
I also need to test my desktop that I dualboot with XP Pro & Vista Ultimate 32bit but first I need to get an NIC Card. The present one got fried by lighting along with my two TV's and Cisco Internet receiver.
Going out this weekend to get the new NIC Card. :)

I will post back with my results this Sunday.

Hi all,

Just posting again to let you know that my setup was formerly the following:

Xp Sp3
Mbam (Pro) Installed over existing (which was the most recent update before the 'problem' update)
Za Free
Avast Free
Spyshelter Personal Free

Well, yesterday I got rid of ZA Free and installed Comodo Firewall (Free). I did this because my system was very slow and I determined that ZA was the problem. Since installing Comodo, my system is responding as it was before I installed ZA, and also there has been no issue using the Beta of MAB (Pro).

Still very happy :)

Hi Maurice,, sorry for the delay in getting back to you re. problem with MBAM 1.6.0.1800.
My firewall is currently Comodo, with AVG running all the time and MBAM as an on demand scanner.
Having looked at bits in my PC it appears that M'soft security centre had added MSE, which I wasn't aware I had downloaded which had then made itself the primary software. It has now been removed and everything is now OK.

I hate it when M'soft think they know better than everyone else on how to organise and run their own systems, just too lazy to move to Linux or one of the others.

Good to hear everything is all OK. If you start MBAM & click the ABOUT tab, don't you see MBAM version 1.60.1.1000 ?
