Norton internet security 2012 messing with MBAM?

Perhaps you need to enter exceptions in your Norton for Malwarebytes.... the instructions below are for version 2011 but they should be similar for 2012

Norton Internet Security 2011

To avoid any conflicts, please add the following files/folders as exclusions

Norton Internet Security 2011:

Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows XP:

• Click Start and select My Computer
  
• Click the Tools item from the menu at the top of the window (if you don't see Tools press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will appear)
  
• Select Folder Options
  
• Click the View tab and make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders
  
• Next, uncheck the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  
• Then, uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes
  
• Click Apply then click OK
  

Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows Vista and Windows 7:

• Click on the Start button and select Computer
  
• Press the Alt key on your keyboard and click on Tools
  
• Select Folder Options
  
• Click the View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders
  
• Next, uncheck the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  
• Then, uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes
  
• Click Apply then click OK
  

Set Exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Norton Internet Security 2011:

1. Open Norton Internet Security and click on Settings at the top
   
2. Click on Computer Settings
   
3. Click Configure [+] to the right of Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR
   
4. Click Add
   
5. Make sure that Include subfolders is checked in the small Add Item window
   
6. Click the small folder icon to the right of the blank white space
   
7. In the Browse for Folder window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files
   
8. Click once on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to highlight it and click on OK
   
9. Click OK and verify that in the box under The following items are ignored by both Auto-Protect and SONAR: it says C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
   
10. Repeat steps 4-9 for the following files and folders:
    
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes Note: On Vista and 7 this will be C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes
      
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
      
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys
      

[*]Once you have all of those items in your list, click on Apply then click on OK to close that window and then click Apply and OK to close the Settings window

[*]Close the Norton Internet Security window

• Click the Add button on the lower left
  
• In the small browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files and click once on Norton Internet Security and click OK
  
• Close Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

I recently bought the license for Malwarebyte pro, I am also experiencing similar issues as the person in the first post (conflict between Norton internet security 2012 and Malwarebytes pro) . I tried to apply the fix that is given above but I am not able to find these two files to exclude in norton Internet security 2012

• C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  
• C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys
  

I cant find these files. Is something wrong? Also I bought malwarebytes from this website link which was giving discount for malwarebytes license.

You're likely running a 64 bit version of Windows. Read the 64 bit section here.

I still cant find these two files to exclude. Both the driver folders dont have the above mentioned files. I am using 64bit windows 7.

It appears Norton uses a 64 bit process. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do as the way 64 bit OS's work is that 64 bit processes are unable to read or detect 32 bit processes. It has to do with how a processor reads and processes data and the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit OS's. This is a really complicated subject and not easy to explain.

HI, thanx for the relply, and I am not a computer programmer so I might not be able to understand even if you try to explain but my question is should I find those files to exclude for them to run smoothly side by side or should I just leave those two files and set the exceptions for the other files only ? will that be enough?

Hi. You're welcome. You can just ignore them as it doesn't know they exist so it won't conflict. I have Returnil Home Edition which isn't able to find them ether and no issues with MBAm if I just exclude the other files.
