My Laptop was hit by XPPoliceAntivirus. I did the following:

1) Immediately ran quick scan using MBAM. Following is the log:

• Download FixPolicies.exe by Bill Castner and save it to your desktop.
  
• Double click on FixPolicies.exe to run it.
  
• Click on Install. It will create a folder named FixPolicies on your desktop.
  
• Open the FixPolicies folder.
  
• Double click on Fix_policies.cmd to run it. Command Prompt will open and close quickly this is normal.
  
• Reboot your computer after it runs

Hi,

I downloaded ComboFix on my desktop but could not disable my antivirus before executing ComboFix.

I have McAfee OAS: Enabled on my system tray and no option to disable it.

Typically when I have to disable McAfee, I would go to Task Manager and stop it, but still my task manager itself is disabled, I am not able to do that.

I anyway tried to run ComboFix and it gave me following error:


"ComboFix has detected that the following real time scanner(s) to be active:

* VirusScan Enterprise + AntiSpyware Enterprise

Antivirus and intrusion prevention programs are known to interfere with ComboFix's running. This may lead to unpredictable results or possible machine damage. Please disable these scanners before clicking 'Ok'"

After seeing this message, I said no in the next screen for disclaimer and came out.

I then realized that, when I got hit by virus last time, I was advised in this forum to create system restore point. So, I went ahead and used the system restore option as suggested here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

I restored to the point 3 days ago, before I was hit by XPPoliceAntivirus.

After restoring I now got my Task Manager back and McAfee OAS is disabled.

Please let me know:
1) If doing the system restore, would have cleaned my system completely?
2) After doing the system restore, now McAfee OAS is disabled, should I run ComboFix now?
3) If system restore is not a good idea, should I revert it back and do something else?

If you can not get an answer promptly then please use the following tool to check and clean your system.

Please download this, place a blank CD in your burner and double-click on the downloaded file. It will automatically burn the CD for you.
At the bottom left should be 2 flags. If you use your mouse and click on the British flag the interface should switch to English for you.
Have it scan ALL files. There is no way that I'm aware of to save a log, so you may need to write down any special errors or infections found and their outcome.

Requires access to a working computer with a CD/DVD burner to create a bootable CD.
