Please download and run this program: Dial-a-fix
Choose ALL features and run it. See if that fixes it or not.

hmmm.. Well not sure if maybe something still hiding or just damage from actual Malware.
Did you select and have DAF run EVERYTHING ?

What error do you get if you try to create a restore point ?

START - RUN - "%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe"

When I ran DAF I clicked on green arrow to highlight and run everything.

If I try to restore I get an error message

Message reads: System Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Info inside message reads:
AppName: rstrui.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.5512 ModName: srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5512 Offset: 00009836

I have to run off for a bit but there is an excellent link with a lot of good information on fixing that. I'll try to locate it and provide that link some time later tonight if I can.
