Can a Router get a virus?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

MBAM found a threat last night called Coretemp_1236.exe (PUP.BundleOffers.IIQ) now this has gone and I have run 2 scans after and they have both come back clean but I have a question.

Could this virus infect someone else using my router? Someone was using the laptop at the time and could this be infected now?

Thanks

Hello and :welcome:

Normally a router does not get infected per say, but it can get hijacked. Usually causing every computer on the network to be redirected to bogus websites. This is done by hijacking the routers DNS settings. This can be fixed by either manually removing the DNS settings or just resetting the router back to factory settings then going through and re-enabling wireless security and changing the default password.

That being said, PUP.BundleOffers.IIQ you mention is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) will not infect other computers connected to your router.

Hope this helps and answers your question, should it not don't hesitate to ask....

Hi Firefox,

thanks for your responce and youve put my mind at ease from thinking it was on my router. This program or what ever malwarebytes detected apparently came with CoreTemps so I uninstalled that also malwarebytes is reporting a clean computer now and ive also scanned with AVG so is it ok to start logging into things like Games without worrying about getting hacked, and can safley say its gone ?
