so i dont use flash player but some youtube videos will play on my computer due to i think its html5 or something. well anyway the issues iv had all day is since upgrading from firefox 13 to 14 iv been getting a script crash along the lines of ytimg.com or something like that

the browser says its stopped responding and its causing firefox to lock up and i have to kill it via the task manager.


i do have noscript running but its set to allow the script thru so i dont know if its noscript or firefox are the issue. but i was wondering if anyone else having this issue


EDIT:

so i went onto another computer in the house and updated the browser and went to the same video and got the same issue heres a picture of the error message. ( also of note is the second computer doesnt have noscript installed)

EDIT 2::

forgot to add that the first computer is running windows 7 home premium and the second computer is running windows xp pro and has flash player installed

and yet i get the same error message.

No problem here so far with 14.1. I have played several music videos today from my playlist.
I also have noscript.

I'm having the very same problem.

Hopefully it can get resolved or someone can help to tell us what we are doing wrong.
It seems many people are not getting the problem so I hope it's just something we have installed that's conflicting.

Well I have the issue on 2 computers. One with windows xp and flash player installed. The other is windows 7 home and it doesn't have flash player installed.

Both have the issue so hopefully its a firefox issue

Ok, i just ran into the same problem. I clicked "continue" on the script error, then clicked play on the video and it worked.

Ah clicking contiue doesn't always work because on my laptop the browser crashed

For me, I have to stop both the scripts that pop up, both very similar or even identical to the ones in your screenshots.

After this it takes a few seconds for Firefox to respond again, pressing play on the video allows it to play normally.
Even though I'm still able to watch the videos, this is annoying and needs to get fixed, especially if it's crashing for some.

I think the cause is one of firefoxs new features. Something bout having to allow plugins before they can run. My understanding is its suposed to stop malware and stuff.


I think that's the cause of our issue but I'm not sure.

I don't believe that is the problem as i played numerous videos, perhaps 8-9 before i had a problem. I went back to the same video later and had the problem again, that did not happen with other videos. may be a hint there that it may be certain videos or their format?

Haven't updated to 14.0.1 here, yet (I always wait a couple of days for the dust to settle ).
So, I can't reproduce the issue here.

However, there's nothing popping up about this at the MZ forum -- it usually lights up immediately when a significant bug appears or another problem occurs (as happened with Fx 13 and Flash 11.3, even though that was a FLASH problem that broke Fx, not the other way around).

Goldhound is correct -- the site specific plug-in permissions feature is disabled by default in Fx 14.0.1 (one needs to make an about:config change to enable it), so that's probably not the cause (though I'm certainly no expert):

My understanding is that some Videos require Java to play. I know that is true when using IE but not sure about Firefox.
Java is disabled on my machine, perhaps i should update it and check for the problem again.

None of my computers in the house have java installed ( don't use anything that requires it so don't install it).


Javascript on the other hand is turned on for the browser. Besides this issue is new nothing else has changed on either computers this issue happened on besides updating firefox

I'm certainly no expert, but I hang out at MZ forum every day, and there just hasn't been an explosion of posts about this (YET) or anything I can find at the Mozilla support page.
That's why I suggested it can still be an extension, e.g. NoScript, or something else in your profile.
It only takes a few seconds to try Mozilla Safe Mode and the other standard diagnostics (clean test profile, etc), as a good place to start.
It could also be that they are messing with something at YT, I suppose.

There are so many bugs/glitches/issues now with the interactions between browsers, plug-ins, and extensions, not to mention the websites themselves, that it's hard to keep everything working properly.

Oh, well. That's all I can come up with.
Someone more expert will have better advice, I'm sure.

Does Java show as up to date in your FF browser when you check your plugins? Or does it show as disabled by Firefox because it is out of date?

Java and Javascript are not the same.
I don't think that one needs Java enabled (or even installed) to view videos.

I do not have Java on either of my rigs, and YT videos play just fine (albeit on Win7, not XP) and with Fx 13.0.1.

So, I don't think that's the problem.

But again, I'm just an old geezer, not a geek.

I hope one of our more expert members can sort this out!

Yah I was talking bout both java the program and javascript. As I stated I don't use java I personally don't install it since I hardly use it ( to the point last time I needed it was like 3 years ago). As for javascript. That's always turned on by default.



On a side note youtubes home page does look different when both logged in and not logged in. ( Different colour for one and some slight layout difference). So who knows what the cause is.

In the link that daledoc1 provided, an answer that apparently worked is to disable HTML5 on Ytube. Sounds kinda ridiculous, FF should never be that buggy! I do not know what they are doing but it is costing them a lot of market share lately.

agree goldhound agreed shouldnt have to disable that sides its the only way for me to watch youtube videos since i refuse to use flash player

You can use VLC Player to view YouTube videos.
