Shortly after a full malwarebytes scan I lost my internet connection completely. After further investigation realised my ethernet adapter wasn't working at all even with the correct driver. I've uploaded a screenshot of what i'm seeing into this thread, more can be provided if necessary. I'm not using wireless.

I don't remember being given an option, it said at the end of the scan/deletion that certain things weren't deleted (around 7 or so items out of 300+) maybe the box was one of them? How would i remedy this?

Can you still log onto the computer and run things? Once this one is done let's take a look again at the Device Manager and see what's there.


If so please try to copy this tool onto it and run it.

Please download to your Desktop: Dr.Web CureIt

• After the file has downloaded, disable your current Anti-Virus and disconnect from the Internet
  
• Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file, then click the Start button, then the OK button to perform an Express Scan.
  
• This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
  
• Once the short scan has finished, Click on the Complete scan radio button.
  
• Then click on the Settings menu on top, the select Change Settings or press the F9 key. You can also change the Language
  
• Choose the Scanning tab and I recomend leaving the Heuristic analysis enabled (this can lead to False Positives though)
  
• On the File types tab ensure you select All files
  
• Click on the Actions tab and set the following:
  
  • Objects Infected objects = Cure, Incurable objects = Move, Suspicious objects = Report
    
  • Infected packages Archive = Move, E-mails = Report, Containers = Move
    
  • Malware Adware = Move, Dialers = Move, Jokes = Move, Riskware = Move, Hacktools = Move
    
  • Do not change the Rename extension - default is: #??
    
  • Leave the default save path for Moved files here: %USERPROFILE%\DoctorWeb\Quarantine\
    
  • Leave prompt on Action checked
• On the Log file tab leave the Log to file checked.
  
• Leave the log file path alone: %USERPROFILE%\DoctorWeb\CureIt.log
  
• Log mode = Append
  
• Encoding = ANSI
  
• Details Leave Names of file packers and Statistics checked.
  
• Limit log file size = 2048 KB and leave the check mark on the Maximum log file size.
  
• On the General tab leave the Scan Priority on High
  
• Click the Apply button at the bottom, and then the OK button.
  
• On the right side under the Dr Web Anti-Virus Logo you will see 3 little buttons. Click the left VCR style Start button.
  
• In this mode it will scan Boot sectors of all disks, All removable media, and all local drives
  
• The more files and folders you have the longer the scan will take. On large drives it can take hours to complete.
  
• When the Cure option is selected, an additional context menu will open. Select the necessary action of the program, if the curing fails.
  
• Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the files.
  
• This will move it to the %USERPROFILE%\DoctorWeb\Quarantine\ folder if it can't be cured. (in this case we need samples)
  
• After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  
• Save the report to your Desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  
• Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  
• Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  
• After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously to your Desktop in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Update and Scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

• Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware (Vista users must Right click and choose RunAs Admin)
  
• Please DO NOT run MBAM in Safe Mode unless requested to, you MUST run it in normal Windows mode.
  
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    
  • Select the Update tab
    
  • Click Update
• When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab
  
• Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply
  • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:

Then RESTART the computer

AFTER the reboot run HJT Do a system scan and save a logfile

Everything seems ok now bar the NIC card driver failing even when i have the correct driver on cd. Also, in the screen cap i initially posted there seems to be far too many network adapters, it is very weird.

Nope. For every one except VIA Rhine Fast Ethernet Adapter it says 'Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer.' I got told to Disable the direct parallel in BIOS how would i go about doing this? It's an on-board NIC too by the way. I don't even care that if they are there I just want a connection again.

Well unless maybe you have a System Restore backup point that goes back to before this happened I'm not sure what else we can do.
The scanners appear to have removed most if not all of the infections, but the damage left behind is not apparent on how to fix it.

Below is a possible solution but if you're not comfortable with trying it then don't. You may be able to search Google and find a Website with better information on repairing the Network card issue. But unless it can be fixed you might be looking at re-installing Windows from scratch.


You could attempt to install ERUNT and then start trying to manually edit the Registry in an attempt to correct the damage.
Then you can restore the Registry if you make things worse. Just make a NEW backup and NEW Folder name/date BEFORE making the changes.

Back up your registry with ERUNT

• Download ERUNT from here and save it to your desktop.
  
• Double click erunt-setup.exe to install the program
  
• Follow the prompts, and then uncheck Create NTREGOPT desktop icon at the Additional Tasks screen.
  
• At the next screen, uncheck Show documentation and check Launch ERUNT
  
• If ERUNT doesnt start by itself, launch it from the desktop shortcut.
  
• At the configuration screen, make sure all 3 checkboxes are checked
  
• Click Ok to run the backup process
  Note:
  The backups can be restored from here:
  C:\windows\ERDNT\<todays date>\ERDNT.exe

WARNING!! Without Registry backups this process can permanently disable the Network cards.

Attempting to reinstall your Network Card
Load the registry then go here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Network

Some of the GUID keys are the NICS
Expand the guid keys and look for the subkey connection. These are the NICS, you can delete these.

Also you need to load computer Management and then select Device Manager
Delete the NICS under Network Adapters
Then click view, show hidden devices.

There will be more hidden nics there that show up under Network Adapters Delete the ones you see fit.
Then restart the Computer and make sure the NETWORK Card Drivers CD is in the CD so that it can auto locate and re-install the drivers.
