Please read the following post which explains some of the aspects, in detail, why MBAM is an adjunct application and not a replacement/substitute for a traditional anti virus application such as from; Eset, Avira, Grisoft, Kaspersky, Alwil, etc.

There is no such thing as a "fake anti virus - virus".

There is a class of malware that masquerades as anti malware and is a con for your money and to denigrate real anti malware software. They are also known as "Rogues" and originally as the SmitFraud family of malware.

This class of malware falls into the trojan subclass of malware and are not viruses. These "rogues" do not self replicate and need assistance to get installed such as the vulnerability/exploitation vector and Social Engineering (the Human exploit). Viruses self infect other files or systems to spread. Something that Rogues do not do ( Thank G-d ! ).

And yes, MBAM will remove the rogues (fake anti malware) software family of trojans.
