I just received a Acer netnotebook yesterday and installed MalwareBytes yesterday and ran a scan today. I am very frightened to see the following. What is wrong. Does it mean this brand new computer is infected badly? It has WinXPsp3
Can someone please help me?
Alice

I was going to give it to my grandson as a birthday present!

Hello Alice

Please follow the instructions below and someone will assist you further in the other forum.

Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to Malwarebytes.org

If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.
  • Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.
  • Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.
  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review
  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.

I have downloaded MB and did run a scan and then those 5 "Errors" that MB found.
So, all I have to do is click on the "Remove Selected" in lower left of screen and everything will be fixed? Even the "Trojans" mentioned and the "HKEY" and "System32" entries?

I am so new at this and afraid to do anything that might "ruin" the computer and prevent further operations. I hope you understand my being hesitant and nervous.

ReL: "Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected."

Could any of these be what they call "Fallse/Positives?"

Hi Alice,

The reason we want you to post in the HJT forum is because only Helpers with certification or experience are allowed to help you in there.
In this forum anyone that wants to reply can reply even if today is the first time they've turned a computer on.

Just open a new post in the forum indicated and as soon as someone has time they will respond to your issues and assist you.

Thanks.

Please DO NOT use the Registry Cleaner from ANY product. They often cause more harm than good and are hyped to sell to users on their fears so they can make money in most cases. Only under the guidance of someone with a LOT of experience should one be used.

Well there are about a dozen forums similar to this one and all of them will not allow helpers to help users until they've passed a course in analyzing and repairing systems. Most users take about a year to complete this course and it's not taken lightly. So for the average user this is their best course of support and they don't have to worry about dozens of wrong answers which is what is often provided in General forums.

i agree too with the fact that most cleaners are bad. I too have used CCleaner and approve of it (having used it numerous times) but at this point, although it doesn't look to be too severe, I would still take this over to the HJT forums and at least have them analyze it.

Just an add-on:
I did run AVG8 prior to running the MB scan and AVG8 (AntiVirus) did not find anything.
