Does anyone have a list of unnecessary startups. These startups must include a description. We are looking for 30 of the most common unneeded startups.

For example,

SoundMan
System Tray icon for the Realtek AC97 Audio Sound Manager for AC97 onboard audio. Available via Start -> Settings-> Control Panel. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.

If someone finds a nice list, free copy of RogueRemover PRO will be rewarded. :)

The point of the free version of RogueRemover PRO meant that some work had to be actually done. I know of many startup lists. What I don't want to do is go through 30,000 entries to find 30 of the most common =). If someone happened to have a list of some, it would be much easier.

In that case;

Instant Messengers
P2P app's
Video tray icons
Audio tray icons
... etc etc

Do you want filenames and locations?

Nope, I need exact value names and a nice description. Below are some examples.

SoundMan
System Tray icon for the Realtek AC97 Audio Sound Manager for AC97 onboard audio. Available via Start -> Settings-> Control Panel. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.

TkBellExe
RealPlayer scheduler. Completely unnecessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.

SunJavaUpdateSched
Checks with Sun's Java updates site to see if newer Java versions are available. Visit http://java.sun.com or just run the Java Plug-In Control Panel.

Microsoft Works Update Detection
Checks for updates to Microsoft Works. Unnecessary. Removing this entry will free up some system resources.

QuickTime Task
Provides a system tray icon that you can use for quick access to the QuickTime application and additional settings. If you use the system tray icon to launch QuickTime you should leave this process running.

My list:

Name
Pacman's description

msnmsgr/MsnMsgr
MSN Messenger (now superseeded by Windows Live Messenger) utility. If you don't use MSN Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs. Go to MS Messenger -> Tools -> Options -> Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts"
MSMSGS
Windows Messenger utility. If you don't use Windows Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs. Go to Windows Messenger > Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts"
Microsoft Office
Application which launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. It's somewhat of a resource hog, and some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it usually isn't required. Note - if you make use of the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar outside an office program this application will need to be enabled for it to show
CTFMON.EXE/ctfmon
CTFMon is involved with the language/alternative input services in Office XP. Ctfmon.exe will continue to put itself back into MSConfig when you run the Office XP apps as long as the Text Services and Speech applets in the Control Panel are enabled. Not required if you don't need these features. For more info on ctfmon see here. Ctfmon can be disabled from Control Panel, Text & Speech Services. Note - the file will always be located in the System32 folder, if it is located elsewhere it will likely be a worm or trojan! Can cause problems with some other programs if left enabled - see here for such an example
dumprep 0 -k/dumprep 0 -u
Used in connection with memory dumps - you can disable these by - right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out
kernelfaultcheck
Used in connection with memory dumps - you can disable these by - right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out
UserFaultCheck
Used in connection with memory dumps - you can disable these by - right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None' - OK your way out

SoundMan
System Tray icon for the Realtek AC97 Audio Sound Manager for AC97 onboard audio. Available via Start -> Settings-> Control Panel
High Definition Audio Property Page Shortcut
Realtek audio card related - probably adds the odd feature to one of the "Sounds" Control Panel applet tabs - doesn't appear to be required

QuickTime Task
System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards

Adobe Reader Speed Launch
Speeds up the time it takes to load the Adobe Reader application. Your choice, but not required for Adobe Reader to function properly

SunJavaUpdateSched

IgfxTray
Quick access to the control panel via a System Tray icon for graphics based upon the Intel chipsets (ie, i810). These chipsets are often included on motherboards. Available via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel

Cmaudio
System tray control panel for C-Media based soundcards - often included on popular motherboards with in-built audio. Available via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel

Logitech Desktop Messenger
Installed with the software for Logitech products. Automatically checks for software upgrades AND new products, services and special offerings from Logitech
LDM

LogitechSoftwareUpdate
Updater, part of Logitech Image Studio - installed with Logitech QuickCam cameras

HP Component Manager
Checks the internet for updated drivers/utilities for your HP product - update manually. Disabling will remove the error "Windows can't shutdown the computer because hpcmpmgr.exe can't be ended"
HP Software Update
HP software updates. If a shortcut doesn't exist, create your own and run it manually
HPHUPD**
HP software update checker and wizard launcher. ** represents the version number. Available via Start -> Programs
LSBWatcher
Used for automatically updating HP programs

TkBellExe
Application Scheduler installed along with RealOne Player. Once installed, it runs independently of RealOne Player. See here for more information, including how to disable it. Also see evntsvc and Realsched. Note that eventsvc.exe no longer appears to be in a newer version. To disable "tkbell.exe" in the new version (1) Start RealOne Player (2) Tools -> Preferences (3) Automatic services in the Categories pane (4) Uncheck all options and then OK

updateMgr
Automatic updates for the Adobe Reader file viewer

ISUSPM Startup
InstallShield Update Service Scheduler. Automatically searches for and performs any updates to the software so you're always working with the most current version
