I hope someone can help me. I've got some nasty something and I have tried everything, including the directions in this thread: http://www.malwareby...?showtopic=7668

The problem: I *think* I have a browser hijacker. I have been using Firefox (I've since uninstalled this), and when going to antivirus/spyware/malware websites, I get a page load error with another tab popping up with Google as the home page. Through IE, I have been able to download Spybot S&D and Malwarebytes, but cannot run either one (therefore there is no malwarebytes log). I didn't have the TDSSserv.sys driver to disable, but I did try installing Malwarebytes with another name on the executable. I did get to download hijackthis and the log is below.

I can still run the antivirus/spyware programs that had been installed previously: Ad-aware and McAfee (through aol). Everytime I run either one of them, I get something. My husband in trying to help, downloaded and ran stopzilla (not purchased and since uninstalled) and pctools spyware doctor (purchased, but he claims he has no registration key, and since uninstalled). I'm convinced those caused more problems than they solved.

Please be gentle - I'm clearly not an IT professional, just a girl trying to get her computer "normal" again. Bottom line, I need help figuring out what on earth this is that I have, and the remedy to run something to clean it.

Well to be sure please restart the computer and run another MBAM scan and post back that log and this log.

Update and Scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

• Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware (Vista users must Right click and choose RunAs Admin)
  
• Please DO NOT run MBAM in Safe Mode unless requested to, you MUST run it in normal Windows mode.
  
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    
  • Select the Update tab
    
  • Click Update
• When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab
  
• Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, the DDS.txt will open.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.
***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) before continuing!***

• Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  
• From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  
• JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  
• Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  
• A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post it back when you reply
  
  Then look for the following Java folders and if found delete them.

STEP 03

Download and install CCleaner

• CCleaner
  
• Double-click on the downloaded file "ccsetup217.exe" and install the application.
  
• Keep the default installation folder "C:\Program Files\CCleaner"
  
• Uncheck "Add CCleaner Yahoo! Toolbar and use CCleaner from your browser"
  
• Click finish when done and close ALL PROGRAMS
  
• Start the CCleaner program.
  
• Click on Registry and Uncheck Registry Integrity so that it does not run (basically the very top, uncheck it)
  
• Click on Options - Advanced and Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
  
• Click back to Cleaner and under SYSTEM uncheck the Memory Dumps and Windows Log Files
  
• Click on Run Cleaner button on the bottom right side of the program.
  
• Click OK to any prompts

STEP 04
Download and Update Java Runtime
The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 12.

• Go to http://java.sun.com/...loads/index.jsp
  
• Go to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 12 about half way down the page and click on the Download button.
  
• In Platform box choose Windows.
  
• Check the box to Accept License Agreement and click Continue.
  
• Click on Windows Offline Installation, click on the link under it which says jre-6u12-windows-i586-p.exe and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
  
• Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be on your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  
• Uncheck the Toolbar button (unless you want the toolbar)
  
• Reboot your computer

Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus

Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus
http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

• Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  
• Click Start
  
• When asked, allow the activex control to install
  
• Disable your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notfication Tray icon near the clock.
  
• Click Start
  
• Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Un-checked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  
• Click Scan
  
• Wait for the scan to finish
  
• Re-enable your Anvirisus software.
  
• A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.

Thanks again. I got through all the steps (JavaRA log below), except I cannot run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus. I click on "install activex Controls", disabled McAfee, but then I get a Windows note saying that because it's an unknown publisher, they've blocked it with no apparent option to allow me to override that. I've played around a little bit with the Privacy settings to no avail. What should I do?

Run Kaspersky Online AV Scanner
Using Internet Explorer Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/d...kavwebscan.html and click the Accept button at the end of the page.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

• Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
  
• Allow the ActiveX download if necessary.
  
• Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
  
• Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
