compatability issues

Recommended Posts

I have Norton 360 v6 installed along with the Malware bytes pro and am getting a message I need to update my Norton 360 to their new version, but when I try I then get a message saying it is not compatible with the Malwarebytes software and that I need to uninstall it! (i've attached an attachement of the message I am seeing.) Malware bytes pro has picked out many more issues than Norton has, but I also need the cover with Norton, does anyone have any suggestions where I can keep malware bytes Pro I purchased and also update the Norton 360!

I have 77 days left of my norton subscription, and so also wondered if I will have any further compatability issues with other security software I might purchase, is there a way of knowing before I buy?

I've always swapped between either Norton and Mcafee, and the full software packages they offer, but am open to suggestions!

If needed I am using a sony vaio laptop, running win 7 64bit

Thank you to anyone who can kindly offer me any of their knowledge, :D

Greetings and welcome :)

We're aware of this issue. For some reason (despite all evidence to the contrary, including our own extensive testing of the two together in realtime as well as many of our customers currently running both softwares in tandem), Norton has recently issued an application update for all of their internet security products which notifies Malwarebytes Anti-Malware users that the two are incompatible and that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware should be removed.

We have contacted them directly and they've yet to provide any details or evidence as to the nature of the claimed incompatibility, its impact, or how to replicate it.

Whether or not you choose to renew your subscription for Norton 360 is obviously entirely up to you, but since you asked, here are just a few alternatives known to provide adequate protection which are tested and fully compatible with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro and which I believe to provide adequate antivirus protection:

Note: If you decide to use one of the trial versions of one of the paid antiviruses then you will either need to purchase it or uninstall it completely and install a replacement antivirus before the trial expires so that your PC is not left unprotected.

Prior to installing a different antivirus, should you choose to switch from Norton, please be sure to first download but do not yet install the antivirus you wish to use, then follow the instructions on this page for using the Norton Removal Tool to completely remove all traces of Norton 360 from your system. Once that process is complete, install and update your new antivirus and configure it to suit your preferences.

Please let us know if there's anything else that we may assist you with.

Thanks :)

Wow, thank you for replying so quickly and putting my mind at ease!

I really appreciate your assurance that Norton just seem to be reporting problems with running the 2 products, but as you state with no evidence provided, pretty bad practice, it's such a shame they can get away with these things! :(

I know out of the 2 the malwarebytes is the one I am more desperate to keep, it saved me last year when I had an attack, and Norton completely missed it, it was fantastic and really got me and my laptop out of trouble!

I will definitely look at the other security software as an alternative when my renewal comes up and follow the instructions on how to make sure I don't leave my system unprotected whilst swapping over, it was very generous of you to provide those steps for me, its something I always worry about!

Thank you again, :D :D

Yes, that's precisely what Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is designed to do: catch and kill the nasty threats that most other security software tends to miss. We focus on the latest, nastiest 0-hour threats to provide a complementary but essential layer of defense against all the nastiness out there on the net.
