Hello i want to ask for ideas for a great firewall to use.

i don't want it to take to much resources because the computer i am on is a PURE gaming computer.
running on Windows XP pro sp3 (with lots of modifications to make it run faster and better for gaming ;D)

umm what more to add :/

just ask if you need more info

and i am not afraid to try out new things that might crash or such things XD
all i need is a good protecting firewall (that i can control good myself)
that don't take to much resources
and that is FREE and not full of spyware XD

any comments are welcome..

I'm using the firewall and HIPS from Comodo Internet Security 3.8 (AV not installed, using AVG) at the moment, and it seems to work fine for gaming. This is on Vista 32bit.

The only thing you must keep in mind is that it is important to set Defence+ into training mode the first time you run a game, or often the game will freeze or crash (D+ tries to popup, interrupting the game and you end up at a point where you can't allow the game to continue because the frozen game is preventing you from allowing it in D+)

These are the games I'm playing/got installed at the moment and they all work fine alongside it:

Audiosurf
Counter-Strike: Source
Defence Grid: The Awakening
Garry's Mod
Half Life
Half life 2
Half life 2: Episode One
Half life 2: Episode Two
Left 4 Dead
Portal
Team Fortress 2
TrackMania Nations Forever
Trials 2: Second Edition
World of Goo demo
Call of Duty 4
Flight Simulator X

It would be nice to mention how familiar you are with rules and creating them and what the hardware components are.

Indeed it is. There are plenty of very good products but not all of them are suitable in every situation. Online Armor is very powerful and rather easy to set-up and use but it's not that light for an older computer. For my PC (socket A with 1GB of RAM) for example it's not a very good choice in terms of system resources: ~30-50MB of memory and constant CPU usage (ContextSwitchDelta). Most PCs nowadays should be able to handle it without a problem but still there is a chance that the OP's PC is an older one and in that case Online Armor might not be the most optimal choice.
I myself could go ahead and recommend Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5. It's VERY light (perhaps the lightest firewall out there), stable, efficient and free. It is however entirely rule based and therefore not that viable for any user that is not very familiar with protocols, ports and such. It's also very basic (it's a pure firewall), no HIPS, no other extras in it.

You won't really need a firewall when gaming, unless the site tries to hack but then the best firewall is from bitdefender. is only in internet security/total security, you could get trials at bitdefender.com. The best and my favorite antivirus, detects asbout 98% of all viruses, the best.

I find online armor is an exceptional product and ther latest release on the 28/10/2010 is only using 13000k on my system which is even lighter than privatefirewall which was previously the lightest firewall around until now.

Online Armor always slowed down startup time for me. Privatefirewall never did and it's very light. One of the best firewalls out there. Comodo does very well too. Using that at the moment.:)

Yeah i really liked privatefirewall, the only thing i wasn't happy with was that my nvidia graffic's would slow down with it, well there current version it does anyway but the previous version was fine. Never took to much notice of the start up time, a few extra seconds either way is no bother as long as im not getting slowed down while working and browsing, but couldn't believe my eye's when i checked the usage of the new online armor, the earlyer version was at least another 10-15000k. Comodo was good when i tried it about a year ago but i found it a bit heavy and to complex in it's usability but they are all highly ranked firewalls so you cant go wrong what ever way you go :)
