I have a sony viao desktop pc model # pcv-7732 Pentium® 4 1.80 ghz 256 mb ram any idea of how much I can go up to on my ram I would like to go higher than 512 . Tiger direct cant find this cpu in there database to tell me whats compatible? I heard that with some computers you can only put the exact same card in the spare slot than what you have any ideas?

It looks like the motherboard can support at LEAST 512mb. I can't find any more information on it. I'm pretty sure you'd be good to go up to 1gb. It isn't the processor that needs to support it, it is the motherboard.
a. Make sure you buy the same speed of RAM. It should say so on its label.
b. Make sure you have enough slots to put the new RAM.

Based on my findings you can go upto 512mb. To be sure go to http://www.crucial.com/index.asp and use the Crucial Memory Advisor™ Tool or the The Crucial System Scanner.
