I'm a bit on edge right now. Yesterday, our PC wasn't responding to any commands and was stuck on the opening screen (where it says to press F10 to do a System Recovery). The keyboard wouldn't respond for awhile, but once it finally did, I went ahead and pressed F10.

After a few minutes, my dad came into the room and went through the whole entire process of booting up the computer for the first time again. In other words, the time zone questions, etc. When it pulled up the desktop, the programs we had on the computer were still there (Malwarebytes, Combofix, iTunes, etc), but all files and folders were otherwise gone! Months of work on Audacity songs, text documents, Finale programs etc etc etc.

The system is acting like it has gone through a complete RESET back to its factory-shipped starting condition, albeit with programs we introduced later. Do you have any idea how to reverse this process and recover the files, or are we screwed? The computer works fine right now, but the issue is in the loss of all that data.

These forums have been a big help to me in the past when I posted the log, but this is quite a calamity that goes beyond malware (although that was probably the cause of the initial problem in the first place). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Just a thought, but maybe your repair was just that, not a full reload with a drive format.

Why not open up Windows Explorer and look within the Documents and Settings folder. Look for a folder with a user name similar to the one you log onto Windows with. The repair might have created a new account without any user-specific data and left the old one still there. Your data might be there, under the "old" account name.

Good luck!
