I just recently purchased malware for my computer upon the suggestion of another forum I had read. Once I had finished the download and did my first scan, my computer popped up with a alert saying that I no longer had virus protection installed on my computer and I was at risk. I did have a different protection system on my computer (Webroot) but I uninstalled that after I downloaded the malware protection. So my question is do I need to do something in addition to the malware to protect my computer against viruses??

Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Greetings and welcome  .

Yes, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is not an anti-virus program, it's a software designed to catch the threats that most anti-virus softwares fail to detect and is designed to run alongside an active anti-virus. The one most recommended around here is Avira. They offer a free version as well as a paid version that has more features.

I am not a happy user of Avira now as it produced too many problems on my XP Pro system and disabled email downloads because of its new MailGuard protection module and its false positives with applications I choose to have on the system.

I made sure that the MailGuard component was removed by going to Add/Remove Programs and chose to Modify the installation and now the umbrella opens up after Avira's initialization it complete.

I am happy with avast! on my Vista Home Premium system and even purchased a Professional license for it a while back when they had a special promotion offer.

A user should have a choice as to what protection they have on their system and not have it dictate to them what they can or can not have.

I noticed some issues with the new version 9 of Avira. On some systems the tray program doesn't start when you reboot. I've seen it happen twice so far, kind of annoying.

edit: Thanks YoKenny1  .
