Automatic Update Issues

Hi,

I am using the latest paid registered version of Malwarebytes and since I purchased it recently, I am having problems with automatic updates.

I had set Windows Task Scheduler for a certian time but often I would start my PC after that time, thinking the PC would know that the time had past and had to update the program. This did not work, so I had to manually update the program.

I then changed the WTS on my Windows XPSP3 PC to activate the update at Windows Startup, and I do see the program attempting to update itself minimized but I keep receiving a message that the update fails, and to check my firewall settings. My software firewall is set to allow Malwarebytes on all ports full access.

Again, I had to manually update.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks.

Greetings searchlight and welcome to the forum  .

You should be able to change it in the Task Scheduler by editing the task's properties. You can:
  • Go to the Settings tab and check the box next to Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed
    or
  • Go to the Conditions tab and check the box next to Wake the computer to run this task (which will only work if your computer is in Sleep mode, not if it is shut down)

Thanks for the info but I am running XP SP3 Home Edition, and these settings do not exist in my version of WTC. Please advise.

See attached screenshots.

Ah yes, sorry, I've been on Vista for a long time  . The checkbox for Wake the computer to run this task is present on the bottom of the settings tab and you should be able to find the other setting if you select a time and click on the Advanced button to the right of Start time. Unchecking the option to Run only if logged on might be a good idea as well.

Thanks for the reply but when I click on a time and then click advanced settings, there is no other viable option to run the update. See the new attached screenshot.

Darn it, sorry, my bad again. Try changing it to When I log on and see if that takes care of it, otherwise you'll have to set it up to repeat every x number of hours to make sure it runs, not too frequent though (maybe every 8 or 12 hours).
