I think my PC is infected with a trojan that opens up a menu looking exactly like Microsoft's activation request. It said I new to reactivate Windows because there has been a significant change to my hardware configuration. I clicked a couple of screens and got to the one that says my copy cannot be activated and to buy a legal copy of Windows. I got suspicious because this is the first time I am aware that Windows will suddenly ask for validation after years of service.

If I reboot my PC, I get a warning popup on the lower right that says Windows needs activation and I have three days left to do it. I recall from the past that true activation pops up this warning every minute or so but I am not getting this currently. Also legal activation popups usually say I have 30 days to activate.

I ran Malwarebytes and Spybot but they didn't find anything wrong. What should I do now?

Windows genuine notifications have been updated recently so that may explain why you are suddenly getting this.

If you have a genuine version of Windows, then please contact Microsoft.
In case you don't have a genuine version of Windows, then get one :P
