Hi,
It was the infected Userinit.exe that caused all the trouble here and redownloaded the malware everytime again.
Combofix replaced it with a clean copy.
A future release of malwarebytes will also be able to deal with infected system files.
* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:
ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.
Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Great.
For some reason, MBAM started running very fast and then got progressively slower as it ran. Here is the latest log file for MBAM. The deleted files were recognized by ComboFix as a rootkit. I'll reboot, uninstall ComboFix, and run MBAM & HJT again to see what happens. Evidently this went deeper than one type of malware.

Here's the latest HJT log, I'm still running MBAM.
For some reason, I've lost the ability to right click pictures and select set as desktop background. I can now browse to the pic from desktop properties and get the same result - that wasn't working earlier. It is only happening on the originally infected username. After i get a clean bill of health from MBAM, should I use MMC to reset the security settings on windows?

For some reason, I've lost the ability to right click pictures and select set as desktop background. I can now browse to the pic from desktop properties and get the same result - that wasn't working earlier. It is only happening on the originally infected username. After i get a clean bill of health from MBAM, should I use MMC to reset the security settings on windows?

Hi,
Run this from the useraccount with the Rightclick problem for pictures:
Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)
Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this:
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
Let me know if that solved it. This because this policy was set.

Thanks for all your help. I'll admit, I was a little weary of ComboFix as I seem to recall having some problems with it in the past, but it did the trick this time.
