I was looking at a HJT log I did a few months ago and noticed this O9 - Extra button: Sky - {08E730A4-FB02-45BD-A900-01E4AD8016F6} - http://www.sky.com (file missing) which I must have missed the last time, I use sky as my internet provider and have had no trouble at all with the system but the missing file perplexs and slightly worrys me!

does anyone know how to locate it and what it might be, and if I need to reinstall it?

Thanks

It's actually quite normal for many system drivers and other files to say (missing file) in HJT as it can't do a direct read of where the file is located.
If the program is functioning correctly you can ignore it.

How would I find out if I still had the file?
I'm not really good with computers and cannot find me way around them with ease

Not easily without knowing more about computers. You would either need to know the program better or possibly find a link on Google that does show exactly where the entry points to, or use special tools that drivers can't hide from, or contact your ISP and ask them.

Sorry Chimpy I wish I could help you better but that appears to be some software your ISP had you install. If you're online then I assume it's working.
If you must know more about it then I highly suggest sending an email to your ISP Tech Support and have them explain more details about it.

Click on My Computer. Select tools>folder options>view>show hidden files now press ok. Now try looking for the file. If not, click on start, click search, type the name of the file in search results. It will probably lead you to an internet source if you don't have it.

In this particular case it should only be a button on IE that when you click it, launches the website sky.com
There is no file to be missing.

It is a registry item? Then it is no use to do that. I don't use or have ever heard of "sky", but if it is a registry item open up regedit, click edit, click find. Then you could change your search if it is a value, key, or other data or just have them all applied by default.

I'm not sure what you're actually wanting him to do victimized. There is no problem. If he doesn't want the button then have HJT remove it. If he wants it, leave it alone - it should work.

Thanks for all you help here, I opened IE and found the extra button that launches the sky website but a warning popped up "windows cannot find make sure you typed the name correctly and try again" plus it opened sky.com in my fire fox browser.
I typed in the url in IE and it found the website fine so im not sure why the button could not connect to it when it used the same url
I never use IE or the sky website so could could something deleted its path due to non use?

Also the button uses the url "http://www.sky.com" but the website is "http://www.sky.com/" would that one back slash affect it?

Thanks

One back slash at the end of a website should not affect it. If you put http://www.sky.com in the address bar - it will appear. I use IE - did not try Firefox yet...

I looked at "manage ad ons" in IE and under the "not Available" part was the "sky", though it says it is enabled, same goes for spybot search and destroy, though spybot is also the "safer networking Ltd" part of the screen is there under a slightly different name.
MSN is my default homepage in IE, I think it used to be "sky" when I first got the computer but when i added MSN it defaulted to that, that was over a year ago if thats of any help.

some HJT is not easy to analyze.

That's why we offer a FREE HJT forum where others that have a great deal of experience will help you.

Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green
If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.
  • Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.
  • Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.
  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review
  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.
