Can you tell us whether it freezes if you start protection manually rather than on a reboot? Here's how you can determine this:
1) Uninstall MBAM completely.
2) Reinstall 1.37, register it, and Start Protection.
Does your system freeze at this point? Do you see the tray icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen?
3) Open Start -> Run -> services.msc and locate MBAMService. Double-click on it and set the "Startup Type" to "Manual."
4) Then reboot. On a reboot, your system should definitely not freeze. Open services.msc again and manually start the MBAMService. Does your system freeze? Do you get the tray icon this time?
This will tell us whether there might be something running at boot that conflicts with us. Thank you --

Thanks for your reply Swandog.
I Have tried everything you said and it doesn't freeze if the tray icon isn't there on startup. I have even told prevx and antivir to ignore all files concerned with mbam and it still freezes during start up if full protection is enabled. so i guess i can only use mbam for a manual scan . if you have any suggestions love to here them. Thanks

I'm having a similar problem. Once booted, I can start realtime protection with no problem...until, the system is re-booted where it then freezes when MBAM loads. If I leave the R/T protection active it will freeze every boot without fail, disabled, no problem. It does not matter "how" real-time is started, if it's set to load on boot it will freeze.
For the record, this is a totally new issue. I've ran MBAM through several versions and this is the first hint of any glitch in it's behavior. It is most definitely related to the real-time protection module.

Can you both provide us complete lists of items running at startup? Obviously there is some kind of conflict. You can try a program like Sysinternals Autoruns to get this.

Also please check the Event Log for any entries related to us.

It would also help if you both could temporarily disable or uninstall your other protection software (antivirus / Prevx / whatever), and then see if the freezes still occur, just to try to help us all identify the conflict. Other protection software is the likely culprit.

Dan334, I split your posts off to your own topic. Let's keep user threads separate for clarity. Thanks.

I have just deactivated my antivirus software, uninstalled mbam then put it back in and activated protection, on start up everything froze as before. I then ran services.msc and switched mbamservice to manual, rebooted and it no longer freezes, but now when i try to activate protection i get an error "No 1073" and then mbam tells me that protection is already up, although i can't seem to find it in my task manger, so i guess its not working.
If you could help it would be great thanks.

jagar,
1) Instead of clicking "Start Protection" again while the service is set to Manual, what I asked you please to do was to just start the service manually. (not the whole protection apparatus -- we have only disabled part of it!) So don't click "Start Protection" in mbam.exe, instead reopen services.msc , double-click on MBAMService and click Start.
See if this prevents the freeze.
2) Are there any entries related to us in the Event Log?
3) Can I see that list of items running at startup?
I should point out that this is usually due to a conflict with protection software. See the first two entries in Fixes for common problems:
Dan334, who was the other user in your topic reporting this problem, found it to be due to an old version of NOD32 not treating us nicely. The problem can usually be fixed by adding exclusions to the antivirus software.
Are you sure you have disabled all your protection software?

I have an anti-virus/Internet-security other than TrendMicro, and enabling protection in Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware causes my computer to freeze when it starts up.
Fix: Check your anti-virus/Internet-security application to see if you can add exclusions for specific applications/files to ignore. You may need to contact their technical support of check their support website for instructions. You will need to set your anti-virus/Internet-security to ignore/exclude the following files:
* C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
* C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

So i did it all again, "sorry if I'm a bit slow i have to translate everything from English to French". reopened services.msc and started mbamservice, then rebooted computer and it did not freeze, after about 1 minute i got an error message saying the service could not open. I thought i would try the same with mbamservice set to delayed auto and after having rebooted everything seems to work, there is about a 45 second delay before the icon appears, apart from that no problem. incidentally all my antiviral software have been told to ignore mbamgui.exe and mbamservice.exe. So can i leave everything as it is now or does mbamservice have to be set to auto.
I found no entries in the event log relating to malwarebytes.
Thanks

Delayed Auto is fine. I'd be curious though to see if we could track down where the conflict was. As I said, in the past this has always been due to conflicts with other protection software, and always on their end. If you add mbamgui and mbamservice as exclusions to antivirus (Avira, you said?), does it still freeze when the service is set to Automatic?

Just to let you Know i did all the basic procedure to correct freezing issues as explained above, i even totally uninstalled all security software " antivir and prevx" just in case. The result is malwarebytes still freezes if MBAMService is set to auto. I've wasted about 6 hours of the last two days since the upgrade to 1.37, everything was working perfectly before, so i can hardly believe that the problem is with somebody else's software. Anyway i will just reinstall antivir and prevx and go back to using malwarebytes on delayed auto.
Thanks for trying to help.

This problem is usually due to TrendMicro, so much so that we have it as the first item in our FAQ:

It could very easily be your Anti-Virus blocking it. The new v1.37 uses new code and methods and because 1.36 worked does not mean 1.37 is trusted by your AV anymore.
What Anti-Virus product are you using and what version?

Im using avira free edition and Prevx v3.0.1.65 (all the latest and updated). But how could it be a problem with my antiviral software when i completely uninstalled them and tried malwarebytes and it still freezes on startup if set to auto ?. Never heard of trend micro and never had any other virus software my laptop is only 4 months old.
