Hi,
I'm a new member and hope I'm posting in the right place.
I have the virus Spyware Protect 2009 on my computer and was trying to use malwarebytes to get rid of it. My computer is running Windows 2000 Professional.
When I try to open malwarebytes, I get a run time error 372 failed to load control vbalgrid from vbalsgrid6.ocx. Your version of vbalsgrid6.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the control provided with the application.
I searched in the forums, and downloaded subinacl and updateMBperms, but when I try to run subinacl, I get a Windows Installer message: The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support for personnel for assistance.
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Greetings and Welcome
.
If you're having trouble getting Malwarebytes' and other tools to update or run please review the following tutorials and see if they are helpful:
If you aren't able to use those instructions or there are other issues then please follow the instructions here:
I'm infected - What do I do now?
And post your logs in a new topic here:
Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs
Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal or scanning tools exept those that you are
instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult.
note: if for some reason you are unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one.
If you can't even run HijackThis, then just post here: Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs describing your issues and an expert will reply with further instructions.
I hope I was helpful. Good luck and safe surfing.

Thank you very much Maniac. The Rootkit driver link you sent me helped me out. I was able to delete the .sys file and then was able to successfully install and launch Malwarebytes. It helped me get rid of more than one virus on my computer. Thanks again, I really appreciate the help!
