This product comes highly recommended and I am looking forward to buying it. Got a few quick questions:

- Does MBAM deal with all malware, including adware, spyware, etc., or is it usually supplemented with something like Adaware?

- If I use the continuous, "live" monitoring feature in the paid-for version, would this produce any appreciable decline in system performance on a high-end gaming rig?

- Can the user switch continuous "live" monitoring on and off?

I think that's it. I look forward to your response and then to trying the product. Thanks!

Greetings and welcome  .

  • You'll be happy to hear that MBAM does in fact deal with adware and spyware as well as many other threats. It is primarily designed to be a supplement for your anti-virus and would most likely negate the need for Ad-Aware, but if you wanted to keep Ad-Aware or any other tools around as on-demand scanners there should be no conflicts. MBAM is designed to detect the current threats that most anti-virus softwares miss or fail to remove.
  • It absolutely wouldn't as long as your anti-virus is configured correctly to have MBAM's files and processes in its trusted zone or exclusions list so it doesn't slow things up (if you need assistance in configuring this, just tell us what AV you use and we'll assist you ;) ). I'm a gamer myself and I use it alongside several other softwares and have had no problems with performance.
  • Yes you can turn the protection module on and off both from the tray icon as well as the main MBAM interface ;) .

If you have any more questions about anything please let us know.

Thanks for your very helpful response, exile. It's not every day that one is visited by a forum deity!

I'd like to take you up on your kind offer to help me configure my AV software to run in harmony with MBAM. I have the full (paid) version of Avira AV. Tonight I bought MBAM without even bothering with the free download but I am not going to install it until you have advised me on how to place MBAM's files and processes in Avira's trusted zone or exclusions list as I want to get it exactly right and then forget about it! You are probably aware of Avira, it seems to be highly recommended by gamers.

Thank you again for the great response and kind offer of assistance. Let me know how you would like to help me configure Avira.

Hello again  .

Avira should actually work just fine with MBAM without any additional configuration. There are many users around the forum here that use them together with 0 conflicts so you should have no issues. If you do encounter any problems please let us know, but as I said, I've heard no reports of problems with Avira so far ;) .

I have loaded Avira version 9 free, on 2 different computers running Windows XP with SP3 and neither one have any conflicts loading, scanning, or updating.

I have Avira free, BitDefender free, and Malwarebytes loaded on the same computer, but I won't recommend you to do so, though I haven't ever experienced any conflicts except one small one with BitDefender Free and Malwarebytes.
