Hi all

I have recently acquired a few problems on my laptop which I believe have all come from a virus issue:

1. windows firewall turns off when internet is enabled (I have no other firewall running and the windows one starts fine if I switch it on manually)

2. No access to any local drives unless i right click and go to 'explore'. I have since resolved this one issue by using Autorun Eater which deleted three "suspicious autorun.inf files".

3. When using Google via IE and clicking on a link after a search, the window that pops up is always to a completely different website such as MySpace, ebay or some other less common ones. If I shut the window and click the same link again the correct website loads although it does seem slower to load the site initially than usual. Unusually the link always opens in a new window.

4. I can install Malwarebytes software but it will not run (not even in safe mode and I have tried changing the .exe file name)

Thats all I can think of at the moment, I am running ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0.684.0 and have Ad-Aware Anniversary edition. ESet has picked up and ‘deleted’ the following viruses:

Win32/Patched.AE virus

Variant of Win32/TrojanDownloader.Agent Trojan

Even with these items removed the problems above persist. Any help would be very greatly received.

Many thanks

Hi,

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

Hi,

This looks OK again. You were dealing with malware that locks Malwarebytes once the malware got installed. Malwarebytes does detect and delete this one though. If you would have malwarebytes installed before (as a realtime scanner), then it would already have blocked the malware in the first place before it could install.
Anyway..

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Glad I could help. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
