I downloaded malwarebytes anti malware to my computer but when I updated I got windows message box asking for admin permission to allow mbam.exe, is this normal? I am presuming mbam.exe is the malwarebytes update file. My Norton 360 did not detect any problems, just want to be sure it is ok to allow this.

Greetings and welcome to the forum
.
This is perfectly normal. Malwarebytes' (mbam.exe) requires administrative privelages to run and update. mbam.exe is the name of the scanner, and also the program used for updating the definitions.
If you have any more questions or issues, please don't hesitate to ask
