Hi all,

Just looking for some specific detailed information on the difference between a Quick and Full scan.

We use MWB for people who have already been infected with a virus. We install the program, update it, run a scan, remove everything, then uninstall it again because it can interfere with some of our software.

Since a Quick Scan only takes 20-30 minutes or so and a Full Scan can take 2+ hours, it seems there's a pretty huge difference in what's being scanned. I've seen the stats that say a Quick scan finds 99% of everything but is there information on specifically what the Full Scan does scan that the Quick Scan doesn't?

We may switch to using a quick scan to save the time if we can see what the difference is. However since we don't use MWB as a preventative measure, rather as a removal tool once someone has gotten some sort of malware, I'm not sure if the full scan would be better in those cases or not.

Anyone have any detailed info on that?

Quick Scan should usually not take more than 6 minutes (completes in just over 1 minute on my computer). Try clearing out temp files, and turning off anti-virus software when scanning.

As far as the differences, the Quick Scan will check the places where live malware will be. Due to the way our heuristics work, the Full Scan will never catch live malware that the Quick Scan won't. If the Full Scan does catch anything more than the Quick Scan, usually it's an installer that's been saved or backed up in a weird place.

Note that the way our heuristics work is a company secret, and you won't get much more than that from us.
