My computer is running Windows XP Media Center. On 7/11/09, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware's scan found 20 infected files. After it removed them, the computer rebooted, and then it started displaying the following error message every time that a program was started.
The title has a *.exe - Bad Image. The information says "The application or DLL globalroot\systemroot\system32\SKYNETfdeneesu.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
This is the Malwarebytes log file when it found the infected files:

While researching this bad image error yesterday, I downloaded and installed Online Armor. The only other thing that has been downloaded is HijackThis. I won't download anything else unless you advise me to do so.

I did as you recommended. When I ran ComboFix, I had to click on OK for the bad image dialog box about 1,000 times while it was scanning for infected files. Partway through, a box popped up that said:
ComboFix has detected the presence of rootkit activity and needs to reboot. Please note the file names. The file names were:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SKYNETfdeneesu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\SKYNETdmobbaup.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SKYNETahxvotau.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SKYNETtylbejhp.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SKYNETvdcewudj.dat
After reboot, I no longer had to click OK on the bad image dialog box.
Here is the log file for the ComboFix execution:

Great, all looks good now.
I'll close your post soon so that other don't post into it and leave you with this information and suggestions.
So how did I get infected in the first place?
[indent]At this time your system appears to be clean. Nothing else in the logs indicates that you are still infected.
Now that you appear to be clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Remove all but the most recent Restore Point on Windows XP
[indent]You should Create a New Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one.
Some of the malware you picked up could have been saved in System Restore.
Since this is a protected directory your tools cannot access to delete these files, they sometimes can reinfect your system if you accidentally use an old restore point.
Setting a new restore point AFTER cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to "roll-back" to a clean working state.
The easiest and safest way to do this is:

Setting a new restore point AFTER cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to "roll-back" to a clean working state.
The easiest and safest way to do this is:
- Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click "System Restore".
- If the shortcut is missing you can also click on START > RUN > and type in %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and click OK
- Choose the radio button marked "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next".
- Give the new Restore Point a name, then click "Create".
- The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.
- Then use the Disk Cleanup to remove all but the most recently created Restore Point.
- Go to Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr.exe
- Select the drive where Windows is installed and click "Ok". Disk Cleanup will scan your files for several minutes, then open.
- Click the "More Options" tab, then click the "Clean up" button under System Restore.
- Click Ok. You will be prompted with "Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?"
- Click Yes, then click Ok.
- Click Yes again when prompted with "Are you sure you want to perform these actions?"
- Disk Cleanup will remove the files and close automatically.
- On the Disk Cleanup tab, if the System Restore: Obsolete Data Stores entry is available remove them also.
- These are files that were created before Windows was reformatted or reinstalled. They are obsolete and you can delete them.
