I use Netflix, and the other day I went to watch something instantly on the computer, and it wanted me to install Microsoft Silverlight plugin.

"Install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in now — it only takes a minute.
About Watching Instantly

* Already included in your membership
* A bonus to your DVDs by mail
* No advertising "

Annoying, I thought I could just watch :( lol

Does anyone know anything about this plug in? I'm sure its probably safe, but I am a little leery of adding new things to the computer unless I know more about them.

I downloaded it I think as long ago as last year,my updates are auto so I had no choice :(
I have only used it twice i think since then on two UK tv websites that use it.
I dont think its really needed but it cant hurt if you have it as it might be useful to you one day.

Thank you to you both!

It's required to watch movies instantly on your computer on Netflix, but I don't really wanna download it, lol.

Why can't they use what every other site uses? :( I dunno. I can do without instant watch I guess, heh.

@ yardbird
Do you think its bad or something?

No I don't think the program is bad, just not for me.. As for setting your MS downloads to auto update? I don't ... Since they have come out with some hotfix's for the updates/patches they send us... I have some people who wait 5-7 days. So the issues if any can settle down. with an ms fix/patch.. if it needs another patch again. Its happened before. I don't autodownload ms downloads, until I read about it first. what it is? and what it will do.. just my 2 cents.

Oh I see.

"Since they have come out with some hotfix's for the updates/patches they send us." What do you mean by that?

Microsoft Silverlight is a safe download from Microsoft. It does NOT slow down your computer at all, and actually adds to your experience on the web. Try it, and it will be awesome (for sites that use it)

Thanks :)

This is the only site that has ever asked me to add it though. I don't know why Netflix can't use something else :( lol.

I'll consider it.

If you go on some places on MSN or some Microsoft sites, then it will ask for it

Thanks :) I figured it would happen on MSN sites, but I was a little surprised to see it on Netflix, because before that I had only heard of it very briefly and didn't really know what it was other than something MSN has.

It's basically Microsoft's answer to Flash. It's decent as a plugin but most sites don't use it.
