Our computer got infected with something via a link on Facebook. I ran the malwarebytes program and an infection was found (7 files...koobface, I believe). With the help of the program, I was able to remove the infected files. However, I still am unable to use the internet browser. Whenever I type a URL into the browser it simply takes me to a Dell search page, states that the requested page cannot be found, and suggests several other links instead.

Additionally, it seems to have taken over my McAfee program, as it tells me that the "detection signature file is between 8 and 29 days old" but is not able to resolve the issue.

There are several causes for this..

1. This infection sets a proxyserver. When the files get removed, the proxyserver is still active and that's why you can't connect.
That's why, In case you lost internet access after performing above instructions:

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.
In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection.


2. McAfee is blocking here (happens frequently after being infected)

In either way, if step 1 doesn't work, please try Windows safe mode WITH networking support and see if it works there. If so, then, in safe mode, start mbam, use the update tab and download all updates.

Then rescan again and post the new log in your next reply.
