Currently there is a "Time elapsed" timer, it would be nice to see "Estimated Time Remaining". This can often help me make a decision as to what action I'm going to take based on the remaining time for a scan.

There are very few that give you this option - If you are refering to a system like Spybot has then it still only shows how much is scanned and gives no actual time remaining - Most removers will not give options like this due to the fact that it is using programs that are upgraded regularly and they do not know exactly how big your system is and what you are running - I usually just set one (MBAM etc) to run while I sit down and eat in the evenings -
That way it is not relevent as to time remaining - SAS and MBAM (occasionally Spybot) take their own time and they are finished when I am -
There was a time I would know roughly the number of items it would check , but now I just run it -

Developers have stated before that the "time remaining" would not be very accurate so in a sense it's pointless. MBAM's scans (especially quickscan) are very fast, typically they are done in less than 15 mins in a worst case scenario. Most of the computers I use are done in less than 5 minutes.
