Hi Again,

I have a customer computer that was badly infected with System Security errors. Malwarebytes removed all but two virus files: \\?\windowsroot\systemroot\sytem32\geyekrrirttpfn.dll (module and file?). The file is removed repeatedly by a scan but the next boot appears again. I downloaded and tried rootrepeal. It identified the presence of a rootkit but would not show the file locations due to sector mismatch errors. The computer is an HP Pavillion with a recovery partition. The only antivirus is Windows Defender.

The computer is running Windows Vista Home. Sorry, long week end.

would you please advise on the next steps?

Hello Dr Bob.

For clarification, the free version of Malwarebytes is for home users only and not for a business. As a business you need to purchase a Technician License and with that you will also have access to support via email or the board if you desire.
That said please follow the directions below and we'll help you to clean the system and after that you should contact corporate@malwarebytes.org to obtain proper business licensing.

Thank you.

Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green
If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.
  • Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.
  • Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.
  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review
  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for info. I normally get my customers to puchase Malwarebytes. However, I will purchase a copy of the corporate version to come into compliance.

In the present issue. With the customer's permission I am reformating the hard drive and re-installing the basick software.

In the future I will use the other forum for questions.

Best Regards and Thanks again

Dr. Bob

No problem, thanks for the follow-up. The cost for the license is paid for typically within a couple support calls to your users.
