Hi,
I've downloaded AboutBuster from the malwarebytes.org site, and am attempting to launch it, but I keep getting a message stating that the Database is corrupted or missing. Any ideas? Is this related to the virus (Coolwwwsearch) I am trying to rid my computer of?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
SRM

Please make sure you are doing this correctly. Download http://www.malwarebytes.org/AboutBuster.zip . Unzip it to a convenient location, making sure that reflist.dll is in the same directory. AboutBuster will not run when it is zipped up or reflist.dll is missing.

Got it! I think my problem was I was trying to launch the .exe file from the unzipped folder. Needed to move all contents to a new folder. Thanks!

I am faced with the same problem even though the .exe file has been unzipped with reflist.dll to my C drive. The error is "Run-time error '5'. Invalid procedure call or argument."

menk;
IF you have just unzipped both EXE and reflist to your root drive (c:\) make a folder for it there eg c:\ BUSTER (or anywhere, desktop, my documents) and MOVE not copy; both the exe and the dll into that folder.

Hello jwbirdsong
Thank you for your response. I have done what you've suggested but I am still getting the same error popup.
I have just clicked on the EXE file for another try and got this file added into the same folder - AboutBuster.exe.manifest. ???

Have you tried a fresh download?? It's possible something was corrupted during download. I suguest you delete everything in the BUSTER (or whatever name you chose) folder and grab a fresh download and try again. Sometimes it's just stubborn.
PS I will be out of town till Sun..if you are still having probs someone else will pick up this thread I'm sure. (AHEM...)

I have done that a few times with no avail. I have also tried to overcome this by installing MDAC 2.6 and updated the Visual Basic Run Time components in Windows. The error 5 still persists.
Have a good trip.

Hey Menk,
Does this error happen on the first file? Or does it happen as soon as you hit scan. I will be releasing AboutBuster 5.2 very soon, this error will most likely be fixed.
Also, is your operating system in a language other than english?

The error started from the first download which was not into a specific folder. I moved the files according to your suggestion. I then deleted the files for redownloading and tried. Did this process a few times. All this while I never reached the scan mode!
My OS is in English though I have checked for other Asian languages as well.

Yes, the error 5 popped up everything I clicked on the EXE file.
I hava actually downloaded from your site as well and with the same result and I have done it again as you've just suggested, once on desktop and other in drive C. Same error.

This bug has been found and squashed
. But unfortunately, AboutBuster 5.2 is being revamped and will not be released for a few more days/weeks. Please post a HijackThis log inside the Malware Removal forum if you need help.
Thanks for letting me know, it helped me find the bug
