I need something for a 2.5" hard drive, SATA 2 of course, with USB 2.0 connections for data and power. It needs to be relatively inexpensive (no more than $20), not super ugly, and effective (good transfer speeds) :P. Any ideas are welcome... This is only one I have seen that I like so far:

Thanks in advance!

I think you're on the right track. I usually look at the best selling (most reviews) and the highest ratings on NewEgg and then read the customer comments on the best choices. I just bought a Rosewill RX234 (unfortunately IDE) using that method for a 2.5" IDE drive that I have. The RX234 is simple and good looking.

This link shows 24 external 2.5" drive enclosures that are Sata II compatible at NewEgg.: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....e=SATA%20I%2fII .

I agree with the above post .... that newegg is not bad, http://www.fantomdri...ducts/tmini.htm these folks had covers EDIT (or hard drive enclosure) under Accessories, but that was 2 years ago....

Just got my hard drive yesterday. I'll take pictures when I get home this afternoon or tomorrow. I decided to go with a 2.5", 320GB, 7200RPM, 16MB cache WD Black Caviar drive with the mesh enclosure I linked to. It is so compact and perfect for my needs. The mesh seems to be keeping the drive very cool. The enclosure has a blue LED when it receives power and a red LED when it has activity.

Aluminum enclosures, especially ones with a few fins (extra surface area), can be very effective removing heat.

@swagger: You said you got a mesh enclosure. Which one did you actually get?

Looks good! The mesh is really open. I assume the case is steel? Are you satisfied with the stiffness of the sides?

Yes, it is steel mesh and the holes are very small but you can pretty much read the wording on the HD. I am very satisfied with the overall build of the case
