I have an XP Home machine that throws a couple of run-time errors when I try to install, run, or uninstall. The first is a run-time error "0". The second is a run-time "440".

I have used both the Control Panel to uninstall. I have also tried using CCLEANER to uninstall. I have used the MBAM-CLEAN utility as well. Same results.

Any suggestsion would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings and welcome :) .

Please try installing the Microsoft Visual Basic Common Controls from here to see if it fixes the problem.

Please post back and let me know how it goes.

Thanks :) .

I uninstalled, ran the MBAM-Clean, rebooted, and ran the program you suggested. I am getting the same error codes. During the install, they happen shortly after the install has put the icon on the desktop. There are 2 sets of the errors codes. 0, 440, 0, and then 440 again.

Thank you in advance for any further suggestions.

I doubt this is malware related, but someone more knowlegable than myself will need to take a look at your system to figure out the issue and fix it for you so please follow the instructions here:
I'm infected - What do I do now?

And post your logs in a new topic here:
Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs

Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal or scanning tools except those that you are
instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult.

note: if for some reason you are unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one.
If you can't even run HijackThis, then just post here:
Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs describing your issues and an expert will reply with further instructions.

Running the following should correct this error.

  • Please copy and paste the following text in the Code box exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ssubtmr6.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\vbalsgrid6.ocx"
  • Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...
  • In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
  • Name the file MBAM Fix.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it.

If that doesn't fix it then please download and install the MS Visual Basic Common Controls from here to see if it helps.

The post here should fix those run time errors.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...st&p=138176

If it does not the you may have active Malware that is blocking and needs to be removed.

Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green
If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.
  • Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.
  • Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.
  • Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
  • If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
  • Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.
  • There are often many others that require asistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review
  • NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.

Thank you. I did read those possible solutions in frequently asked questions. I was hoping for something simpler.

Well this really is pretty simple to run and should only take a few seconds. Even if you're not familiar with Windows it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to run.
