I have just got home after spending six hours trying to sort out my friends PC. She said she had found a virus and had used Malwarebytes to get rid of it but now she couldn't access the internet or the other 2 PCs on her home network.
I check the logs and found that MWB had deleted the following:
Trojan.FakeAlert.H
Backdoor.bot
Malware.Trace
I ran a full scan again (after updating) and Malwarebytes found Backdoor.bot again, which I let it delete.
After a reboot and rescan it appears the machine is now clean, but there is still the networking problem. I checked Device Manager and found the "Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller" had one of those yellow exclamation marks next to it. I downloaded the latest drivers and transferred to the PC via USB memory stick and tried to install them but the installer came up with an error:
"There was a problem installing this hardware"
I have tried disabling the onboard network adaptor and installing a separate PCI NIC but again I am getting this problem when installing the drivers. I have tried repairing TCP/IP using the Winsock fix but to no avail.
I am beginning to think this may have to be a format/reinstall job.
Please someone tell me I am wrong... any help gratefully received!
Cannot get network adaptor to work after malware problem

Reinstalling the NIC driver should have taken care of it.
