I have used Malwarebytes in the past and worked great. Now I apparently got a bad one because I cannot open explorer.exe. I log in and all I have is my desktop background. No icons, toolbars and I right click on the screen and nothing.
I can open task manager.
I have tried to run Malwarbytes and it will not let me. It say that I do not have access to blah, blah, blah.
I have tried running it in safe mode and have tried running it as administrator and it still will not let me.
I have tried to rename the mbam.exe file so it won't recongnize it and possibly let it run, but it will not let me rename it.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and still will not work.
I have Norton, and it will run but it doesn't find anything.
I have typed in explorer.exe in the run box and it says the same thing.
I have tried so many forums and tried so many things, and nothing has worked.
I did get superantispyware to run the other day after some steps on another forum, and it found 106 tracking cookies and 3 adware and it removed them, but it still does not bring up my desktop and I tried those steps and then tried to run Malware, and it won't work.
I have windows XP and a HP a712n computer.
I can get into regedit and msconfig. I have also tried to restore computer to earlier date, and it won't let me.

Someone please help...????....

Hi, lbeham

Welcome.

  • Download RootRepeal from the following location and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract RootRepeal.exe from the archive.
  • Open Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Click the Posted Image tab.
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Check all seven boxes: Posted Image
  • Push Ok
  • Check the box for your main system drive (Usually C:), and press Ok.
  • Allow RootRepeal to run a scan of your system. This may take some time.
  • Once the scan completes, push the Posted Image button. Save the log to your desktop, using a distinctive name, such as RootRepeal.txt. Include this report in your next reply, please.
