I have used MBAM free for some time now. I upgraded to the full version and cannot get the protection mode started. I'm running Win XP Pro sp3, all patches, AVG SBS full version, no other AV or AM software.

Here are the simptoms and errors:

On Windows start-up I get the following MBAM error window: [Open Event] Failed to Preform Desired Action: Error Code 2
Or on start-up I might instead get an error stating a problem with MBAMservice and to see the event log. Checking the log I find one MBAM entry for the service control manager "The MBAMService service entered the stopped state."

When I open MBAM and go to Protection is shows the Protect Module as disabled. When I click Start Protection I get" [Create Service] Failed to Perform Desired Action Error Code 1073. Then followed by a second message Protection Mode is already running. If I check running processes neither MBAMgui nor MBAMservice are running.

Following the instructions in this forum for the above issues I have uninstalled MBAM, rebooted, run the clean utility, rebotted, disabled AVG's resident shield, added the Malwarebytes folder as an exception, reinstalled MBAM, ran updates and then tried to start protection and still get the 1073 error. Rebooted and still get the 2 error or MBAMservice error.

I have run on demand scans from AVG and MBAM and no viruses/malware indicated.

What else should I try? what info can I gather for you to resolve this?

It let's me know that it's not due to a invalid volume name issue.

Have you sent email to the helpdesk to seek support on this?
Is the system infected or appear to possibly be infected at all?

If you you've not sent an email to helpdesk@malwarebytes.org then I'd do that. They should be able to assist you in getting it working.

What Anti-Virus are you running? AVG 7x, 8x ??

I have not emailed the help desk but I will if that's what I should do. I'm running AVG 8.5.423 SBS Edition.

You don't have to mail them if you don't want to, but as a paying customer they can probably assist you faster than waiting through the normal 2 - 4 day wait in the HJT forum. It's up to you though.

Also, scans with both AVG and MBAM do not find any infections. I haven't had an infection on this computer in over 8 months so none suspected.

I'd rather get it taken care of soon as possible. I was hoping it was something easy that I could fix over the weekend. I'll email the help desk and see if they can assist. Thanks Ron
