I was infected with a virus Friday afternoon. I am running Windows XP from a HP Pavilion laptop. I was using Symantec at the time and it was unable to remove the virus. I uninstalled that program and installed AVG. AVG continually removes the same program to quarantine, but it undoubtedly reappears. This is what I have unsuccessfully tried since:
- disabling system restore and using AVG to remove virus
- deleting files from the registry. I was locked out of the registry but used UnHook program to gain entry. I could not find the identified viral files in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE directories. File names that were identified by AVG were
C:\WINDOWS\syssvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iehelper.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\critical_warning.html
C:\WINDOWS\system32\~.exe
Scans also reported: Trojan Horse BHO.JEW, Generic_c.BJPC, Dropper.Generic.BBLF
- I also tried to edit the Win.ini and System.ini files. I could not gain entry to the files.
- MBAM, HijackThis and ComboFix will download to desktop but will not open
I would appreciate any assistance! I am bombarded with constant Antivirus System Pro alerts, failed exe programs, and new x-ated explorer windows. Thank-you
