Trouble running MBAM

I have Windows XP and some bad malware. I downloaded MBAM and it removed a lot of infected files and I've been doing a scan at least once a day and monitoring my computer. Out of no where a few days ago MBAM will not run. When I try to open the program, a pop up box comes up that says, "Missing Shortcut: Windows is searching for mbam.exe. To locate the file yourself, click browse." I clicked browse and found the program and when I try to open it nothing happens. I've tried uninstalling it through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. I also had to run Mbam - clean the first time I ever downloaded MBAM, and I tried running that before re-installing it and it just says that it will remove all instance of MBAM, but then I get a box that pops up and says, "SHGetValue failed with error code 0." Very frustrating...
