Recommended Posts

So here I am in the unknown realm!! can't find in search--so forgive if in wrong corner of your world.

just got all cleaned up at geeksto go and this product has saved my computer twice. Didn't know you had real time running program.

I have the avast...also kaspersky. neither one caught anything! have 3 computers and 2 laps infected at root and registry uggghhhhh

I"M GOOD..have the best geek

now need REAL advice on antivirus protection. from what I see it might not be best to have all eggs in one system.!! Rather have pieces of armour!

I hereby swear I will use my windows firewall unless you say different! I am willing to join virus and firewall but want only one malware---YOU---PERIOD!! I see kaspersky wants to be only child and run alone-- well, It didn't earn that. perhaps I am being to harsh and expected malware from just virus protect program but it was full system and I obviously didn't have enough knowledge.

Perhaps I am overreacting and all with being nervous about my avast now but HEY this week night and day with no sleep has been h@$$

I do need an option to make paypal and debit card use safe for one computer.

I humbly bow to your expertise because YOU HAVE EARNED IT.. :)

awaiting reply

you should run layered security. You need to have Antivirus software (only one installed) and also Antimalware software like MBAM to run along side your AV.

Here are our recommendations for AV:

The following are my recommendations for antivirus protection along with links to downloads for them (free trials for those that require a purchase so you can try them before deciding):

Note: If you decide to use one of the trial versions of one of the paid antiviruses then you will either need to purchase it or uninstall it completely and install a replacement antivirus before the trial expires so that your PC is not left unprotected.

MSE Downloads:

Definitions Installers:

Note: if installing the definitions in Windows Vista or Windows 7 you MUST right click the definitions installer and select Run as administrator and click Continue at the User Account Control prompt.

Also note that if using the paid version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with your antivirus in realtime that it is generally a good idea to exclude Malwarebytes' files from your antivirus to avoid conflicts. The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products.

Absolutely, a multi-layered approach to malware is best.

I use Malwarebytes and Spybot and Piriform's CCleaner to keep the temp files at bay.

For Anti-Virus, I use AVG Internet Security.

So far, they've done the job remarkably well.

You never want to rely on one anti-malware product alone.

There are just too many variants out there that chances are one will miss something.

Best of luck to you!

Hi amymac and welcome to malwarebytes'!

Are you running avast and kaspersky on the same computer? If so remove avast and keep kaspersky as running more then one can cause problems! Also do you have kaspersky internet security or anti-virus? The reason is that more then one firewall on at the same time can conflict.

Hello amymac and welcome to Malwarebytes forum.

Firefox has given you good advice and if i may add, there is much more to internet security than just an antivirus program.

You must take steps to to ensure that your browser is secure also. My personal recommendation is to use Firefox browser and from addons get "noscript" along with "Betterprivacy 1.45". There are of course other options for browsers.

No antivirus program can protect you completely but a layered approach including only ONE firewall and ONE AV running and of course the paid Malwarebytes pro realtime is IMO, the best way to go.

Be sure to download all microsoft security updates regularly.

I may be going against the grain here but i have had NIS 2009/2010 for a couple years now and have been very happy with it, zero conflicts with MBAM and never any infections. I also depend on the the "safe search" function. While being unconvinced about WOT (Web of trust) as it is dependent on mostly uncontrollable and unverifiable info from users not a security company. That being said however, my surfing habits are somewhat paranoid also :)

Best of luck to you.
