I can't get MBAM's resident Protection Module to start. When I click Start Protection, I get the following error message:

Quote

Failed to perform desired action. Error Code: 997 (MBAMService)

When I checked my Services, I see that MBAMService is set to Manual, and the service is stopped. I set the service to Automatic, and tried to start it but get the following:

Quote

Could not start the MBAMService on Local Computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

In my Event Viewer, I see:

Quote

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MBAMTrayCtrl
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1
Date: 18/05/2008
Time: 3:25:50 PM
User: N/A

Description:
The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( MBAMTrayCtrl ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: MBAMTrayCtrl, Fatal Error: MBAMService install failed.

The on-demand scan works ok. This is a standalone desktop PC, XP MCE 2005.
