Today I had MS remotely log-in to assist with an SP1 Vista issue. They uninstalled the program then directed me to unistall my av (trend micro) which I did while online with them. I then downloaded sp1 from the ms website and installed it. I then downloaded avast free and installed, but after it was installed I could not connect to the internet. Uninstalled it, and decided to go back with trend micro. I installed trend micro then it automatically uninstalled. I disconnected from the internet, ran MBAM and found what is below. I then installed trend again and it tried uninstalling but I clicked cancell prior to it uninstalling. My previous hijackthis logs only have a few different items listed, so I think I am alright. I think I should delete the 03 entry (SiteAdvisor) which I no longer have. Also, DellSupportCenter in 04 I may want to delete. I removed Dell Support from add/remove. Thanks for your continued help. SpyBot S&D did not find anything.

The second try it installed fine. I am not sure if I did something wrong during the install to cause it. That has actually happened on a few other installs. (HP Printer). I ran the ESET online but I couldn't get it to show a log. Hopefully, here is a picture.

Do you think it is still necessary to proceed with your other steps? If so, let me know and I will.
Also, I believe it shows Windows Defender as off (hide), but according to Security Center it is on and in the task manager it is running.

Do you think it is still necessary to proceed with your other steps? If so, let me know and I will.
Also, I believe it shows Windows Defender as off (hide), but according to Security Center it is on and in the task manager it is running.

Well the system looks pretty clean on the surface but that is what those other scanners are for is to help locate possibly hidden malware on the system.
I'm starting to see more and more Malware that is using hidden methods that many of these scanners can not detect or see - that's why I suggest to run these others, but it's up to you.
Start Hijackthis and do a Scan Only and place a check mark on the following items

I downloaded and ran combofix, but I did not turn off my av protection. I read the directions, but forgot that one step. Here are those results, let me know if I need to run it again.
Also, ATF cleaner is not compatible with Vista, so I ran disk cleanup, but if needed I can go with CCleaner.
You instructed me to delete the 01 Host file through Hijackthis. Is that a normal Vista entry that should be there? After running Combofix I am only able to access this website?

Well I just got back from out of town, but will be going back out again tomorrow.
I do not believe that this entry is valid, but as you can see in the logs it's now back again.
O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost
Either tomorrow night or Monday I'll double check on that entry for Vista. Also didn't you say that SETUP.INF was already removed? The logs show it was deleted again so I need time to review your logs. Doing it late at night before bed is not a good idea so I'll have to wait till I have more time to dedicate to researching your system.
At this time I do not see any reason why you would not be able to access any site on the Web. If you're still having trouble with that let me know and I'll check on that too.

The website isue has resolved. Not sure what caused it. I did not delete the 01 entry yet, but I will wait for your response. I have looked at other peoples Vista logs and they have had it. The setup.inf that MBAM deleted was located in another location, so it appears that Combofix found and deleted it in the download folder. Let me know what I need to do next. Thanks

They're in the process of updating to a new version so hopefully you can get that and run that tonight.
I still need to research the Vista item for you and I'll try to do that from home tonight. I had to give up my Vista system to a user at work so don't have one right now at work.

Here's what the new version located. I am perplexed that this garbage is getting into my system. I have not deleted them yet, I have them in quarantine
I followed the path to the entry combofix deleted and it may have been a false positive. I think it related to a driver diagnostic tool I used for my hp printer. Here is a picture of the file that the path lead to.

Okay, I have confirmed the entry O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost is a valid entry on Vista - So do not remove.
These entries do appear to be bad entries and do not belong on your system - they are linked to the Nmwegbsf Toolbar. You should remove them to the Quarantine of MB
Registry Keys Infected:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Typelib\{f9fa603d-697c-4900-a950-e54f08324a24} (Trojan.FakeAlert) -> No action taken.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\nmwegbsf.1 (Trojan.FakeAlert) -> No action taken.
The entry 80AEEC0E-A2BE-4B8D-985F-350FE869DC40 though shows as zero byte size and damaged so I would keep it in the Quarantine for now.
So I don't think it is meant to be Malware and not really sure why MB flagged it, but you should probably remove that ActiveX version and download a new one for your printer if needed.
How is the system running in general now? Do you show any signs of being infected ?

I have the two entries you highlighted in red in quarentine, so I will go ahead and delete them. That activex control for the hp printer is no longer needed so I will also remove that.
Everything appears to be running well. I haven't noticed any signs of malware. I have scanned with trendmicro av, windows defender, spybot s&d, MBAM and nothing has been flagged (other than the entries I put on here). I think I am good to go. If so, do you want me to remove combofix and dss?
I appreciate your help.

Yes, I agree. From the logs your system appears to be clean now.
Let's clear out the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for general malware removal and could cause damage if used inappropriately.
Please download OTMoveIt2 and save it to desktop.
Let me know if there was any trouble removing anything.

Great - glad to hear it.
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore-VISTA
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
Turn off System Restore-Vista
Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.
(Vista users must ensure that any programs are Vista compatible BEFORE installing)
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5.2
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here
Install SpyWare Blaster 4.0
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here
Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here
Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here
Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/...p2002/hosts.htm
Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check
Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.
