MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,5)

Hi,

I get error MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,5) when trying to start MBAM on a computer running Windows 7.

Following earlier advice in this forum I deleted rules.ref.

On next try to start MBAM I accept the database download. Then I get the same MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,5) again.

What to do?

Then have you tried this one yet?

Please follow the instructions, and pay attention to the third point of the note below:

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

1. Click on the Start button and select Control Panel
   
2. Click on Programs and Features
   
3. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
   
4. Restart your computer very important
   
5. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
   
6. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
   
7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here. Remember to enable your Anti-Virus after installation.
   

Note:

• You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
  
• Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
  Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version.
  
• Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides, especially Section H, posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, but it doesn't work.

I have tried your suggestions exactly several times.

If I end the installation with choosing booth update database and start MBAM I get the same error message immediately.

If I just start MBAM I can run it, but at next update I get the error and after that MBAM can't be started again.

Any ideas?

Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows XP:

• Click Start and select My Computer
  
• Click the Tools item from the menu at the top of the window (if you don't see Tools press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will appear)
  
• Select Folder Options
  
• Click the View tab and make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders
  
• Next, uncheck the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  
• Then, uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes
  
• Click Apply then click OK
  

Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and delete rules.ref. Once you've done that, start MBAM and when it shows the error and asks to update, let it do so and see if that corrects it.

This was the very first thing I tried.

It doesn't work now either.

The same thing happens as I described in my first post.

I have just started getting the same error message today. The problem started after rebooting the PC today. Running:

Win7 ultimate

Mcafee antivirus version 13.15 also running

I haven't tried anything yet to correct it (other than find this thread in the forum). Will wait to see what works but thought it might be helpful to know about another case.

I tried deleting rules.ref.

Now everytime I run the program it asks to download the database.

Then it says connectiing to the server with a progress bar that is only on for a second followed by: You have the latest database version.

Then I get a different error: MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (2, 0) Ths system can not find the file specified.

All is good now....

I did the uninstall - reinstall per the instructions above.

It took about 15 minutes and all is working.

Another reminder after the re-install is to reset your scheduled scans

Thanks for reminding me to shut down my software firewall (Zone Alarm).

I had closed down all antimalware but forgot the firewall, stupid.

Now everyting works OK.

It didint work : ( My computer has been wiped out twice in the last couple months and everyone says to run your program, ( I am TIRED of being hacked..ugh) My computer is basically empty I am just reloading things and I loaded Avast but I disabled it to do this, is there ANYTHING else I can do : (
