MBAM Error Load_Database (0,5)

MBAM worked great for me until the most recent update a few hours ago. Now I get an error message copied below:

I have also seen messages that tell me the errors are described in the log file. Here is the log entry since the problem began tonight:

18:20:04 Jim ERROR Database update failed: zlib::decompress failed with error code 0

20:27:19 (null) ERROR zlib::decompress failed with error code 5

20:27:20 (null) MESSAGE Protection stopped

20:33:28 (null) ERROR zlib::decompress failed with error code 5

20:33:29 (null) MESSAGE Protection stopped

21:39:20 (null) ERROR UtilityReadFile failed with error code 2

21:39:20 (null) MESSAGE Protection stopped

I read in other threads here that a good first step for similar errors would be to delete Rules.Ref. I did that, and MBAM downloaded a new data set to reconstitute Rules.Ref, but the same problem prevents MBAM from starting and I get the same error message shown above. Could this be a problem with the MBAM database that was delivered to my computer this evening? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Please try the following and if it does not correct the issue then please follow the above instructions from yardbird:

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
      Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
